Default The V's path to a new life

As some of you probably remember a few months ago I accidentally ran the car without realizing on 87 octane at the track. Needless to say something broke, we all assumed it was just a cracked ring land and the plan was to pull it out and go up to a forged 416. Well we finally pulled the car in and pulled the motor out, it turns out I did a lot more then just cracking a ring land.

Fist sign of what was to come...

Once the motor was out we rolled it on over to our engine builder Mike from MCP Competition Engines where he proceeded to pull it apart,

And now...

Its hard to tell in the picture but i actually put a dent into it.

And the car now waiting to come back to life

Gonna need a new block, so have a lot of tough decisions to make now. Hmmm

Thanx for looking guys, I'm gonna keep updating this thread with progress.

Joe

Why cant the block be sleeved? Much cheaper and easier and MUCH less expensive than another block.

Filled it up at Exxon and wasn't paying attention, the guy put 87 in without me realizing.

The dent in the wall is way to deep to be sleeved or bored safely.

Negative. That is the purpose of a sleeve. The old sleeve gets bored out completely and a new one is pressed in. Much cheaper (and stronger) repair than going to a new block. Most who run the LS7 blocks do this b/c the OE liners are too thin and can crack with just the slightest bit of detonation. I'd check it out if I were you.

Just cough up the 2K and have ERL or somebody resleeve it. Yeas it costs a few hundred more than an LS3 (same as LSA unless i missed something over last few years) block, but it will help if you decide the thing needs more boost and maybe spray.

My engine builder doesn't recommend sleeving it so I'm not. I have yet to see one of his motors go bad and trust his recommendation.

I would post over in the GEN 4 internal engine section on here. If your builder somehow thinks a stock block is stronger than a sleeved block he has damn sure bumped his head. If mid sleeves are installed properly the block will split before you have a sleeve issue.

Do your homework b/c your builder hasn't.

What DMM said. Nothing wrong with a big bore sleeved motor. Nothing at all.

Doubt it, im sure his owners manual recommends premium. His own fault for putting 87 in it.
