Default New Engine for CTS-V in late 2005-06

I have it on good authority that the CTS-V will get a new engine late in the MY2005 or early MY2006. My source is a crew member with the Andy Pilgrim team and he tells me it will be from the Corvette again (since the Z06 - C6 Vette in 2006 will be a new engine that is where the CTS-V's will come from also he says). So watch the news for what they put in the 2006 Z06 and I believe you will see it in the CTS-V in very limited production (and high dollar) whenever the Z06 comes out.

Also a fyi for the other Cadillac models in the V-Series to come. The XLR and STS will NOT get the LS6 engine but will get a supercharged Northstar engine with more HP than the LS6 in the CTS-V, so I am told.

I agree with you. I too was at sebring and got alot of good pics in the tech area after the GT race was over. Also a rep from GMPD virtually confirmed what you are saying for engine choices for the new V, XLR-V, and STS-V

I would like to see auto as an option in that car, that would make it more appealing to most of the "older" crowd, I would for sure get it in the 6-speed though, I miss it too much on my car

Not that it would compete against the sports car crowd, but have you heard any rumors of the V series Escalade? I catch a XV12 rumored V series Escalade often nowadays...I even heard there is a Escalade running around with a sixteen cylinder out of the Cien show car....

It would make sense that GM stops production of the LS1/LS6 blocks and moves all vehicles currently using them over to LS2 block specs. I am betting GM goes with the LS2 motor for the CTS-V and not the rumored C6 Z06 motor...

Well the C6 Z06 motor will probably be rated at 500hp, and I bet this motor will end up in the V-series CTS

The ecalade V should come out 2006-7 when the car gets remodeled

It was a story in Automotive News a few months ago.

There's a Cadillac V-12 in the works, and it will likely debut in the Escalade and make it's way to the XLR.

You're right, GM is targeting 500hp on the C6 Z, but I have good word that they're having a real hard time keeping motors together.

As for the Escalade-V, don't expect it anytime soon.

Yea I second the Auto option for the CTS-V but they should offer it in a SMG style like the M3. My dad is pretty much sold on the car but really doesnt want to be rowing the gears everyday hes at work. He works out of his car for the most part and puts like 25,000 miles a year on a car.

GM has a few models on the 'wait and see" list --- the cts is one of those models. They have several directions they can go, based on what the customers actually do ---

With that goofy pushrod-activated 3 valve setup, I'll bet they're having a hell of a time of it.

Yay my first post. Tom Peters said at the C5/C6 birthday bash that the C6 Z06 will be at least 500hp, but at a much higher cost. I expect the tag to be the LS-7, which was an extremely powerful and rare engine in the C3 Sting Ray. But, I do not believe they would put this in the CTS-V, simply because of the huge price increase that would come with it. I would expect an LS-2 with a little over 400hp. So don't get all hyped up about a super V with Viper thrashing capability. If you want that kind of car, just get the Z06. Dave Hill also hinted that we will see more usage of carbon fiber in the coming years, thanks to the breakthroughs made with the Z16.

Wait till you guys see the new V line up. Its absolutely AWESOME.

I am an "engineer" for the car's powertrain cooling systems.

They are actually somewhere in germany testing the cars next week i think.

*i put engineer in quotes because i'm only a co-op on the program but in a year or two i'll be there

I think that's doubtful, I've heard the Northstar won't clear the Shock towers of the CTS. Conventional Wisdom at this point is the 2006 CTS-V will get the 500hp LS7. But thats a long ways away so we'll se what happens in the next 12 months.

FWIW though the 2006 M5 does get a 500hp V10 and the next gen Audi RS6 might get the 500hp Gallarada V10 as well.
