Default window tint, they cut off at the matrix... is this the norm?

So I just got some window tint in Washington, payed about 100 dollars than what I normally pay in LA.

I went the lightest shade of reflective as I always do on my cars.

But these guys cut the tint off on the rear window where the Matrix starts. I've never seen this done before on any of my cars including my base model CTS.

I dont like how it looks. It just looks retarded. is this normal practice? has anyone had this done before. Ill add that I wasn't mentioned this until after the job was done.

The inside view is hideous

out side is visible as well but not as bad obviously because there is no light in the vehicle.

Yeah it looks terrible. I know you usually end up with a few bubbles around those things but I've never seen it just cut off like that

Shop I went to did that. I caught it on the way home and smoked some tires on my way back to complain about it. Their tech says the defrost bumps make the tint not adhere as it should. I argued that it would be fine. We went back and forth until they redid it. that was almost 2 years ago and the rear still looks fine.

A friend of mine used to tint, he says its just guys that don't have much skill with it, they cut it and usually apply a solid black film over that area.

I managed a tint store so i can tell you this is not normal. The problem with the dot matrix is it usually looks like **** for a week or two after being tinted(this drives customers crazy). After a couple days in the sun it clears up. I had to tell every customer to wait a week and it would be good. Often when putting 5% the matrix becomes way more visible so that's when I suggested black vinyl over the dots.

yeah well I just called them and they said I'd have to call when their manager is there.

I told them I wasn't happy and I want it tinted right. He replied that they can rip it all off and refund my money.

I said as along as my defrosters are in working order they can take it all off and I'll take my business elsewhere. If they mess up my defrosters it's to small claims court we'll end up until it's all fixed up.

Had they told me they'd do this I would not have got tinted there, Its is not spelled out anywhere that they will do this.

Get it removed ASAP... The longer you let the glue set/cure, the harder it's gonna be to remove. Getting the tint off and cleaning all the glue is a dirty job that can take hours.

I seriously dont want to deal with that shop anymore, but I think I'm going to just settle with having a strip put at the top. It just sux that something so simple could be made into complete ****.

they can stirp it all off and get me a refund, because that's just how they tint cars. I need to talk to the manager. I just want it all tinted. I'll talk with the manager tomorrow.

what ever happened to giving the customer what they payed for, not what they want. SMH.

Get your refund and take it elsewhere. I wouldnt trust a shop that didn't do it right once already, to redo it. What if that guy purposely ***** with your car? I dunno, I just assume the worst really. Get a refund and go somewhere else.

Yeah, I would get a refund as well. Don't let them remove it though. Considering their 'skills' in the application, they'd probably mess up your defroster lines during removal. What's going to suck is the extra cost to get it removed when you have it redone elsewhere.

Edit: I would've gone a little darker. The difference in temperature in the summer is nice.

Mine was done like that also. I freaked and they put black vinyl over the dot matrix. There has been a jagged line of sunlight between them ever since. I have to use black touch up paint to cover the gaps.

one of the cars i had back in the day did that also. they also recommended that i put a black piece of vinyl on it.. wasn't too happy.. ive heard that taking tint off the dots usually ruins them.
