Default Next dumb que. Spinning motor by hand.

How do you guys turn the motor when working on it to do things like setting TDC. I have an ATI damper so getting a socket is tight around the fans. I don't
really want to remove the intake or the air deflector to go from underneath if I don't have to.

Just take the fans out. 4 8mm bolts hold it to the rad and one 7mm bolt on a bracket for an ac line

Why do you need to turn the motor for valve springs? Unbolt the rockers, change spring, reinstall rocker. The LS based engine valvetrain is zero lash because it is hydraulic and non adjustable... Unless you run some weird aftermarket stuff. The only time I've had to turn a motor during spring installs is when setting the valve lash. It helps in that case to have tdc on cylinder 1 so you can adjust half the valves' lashes at once.

Or are you doing some other stuff to the car as well?

He would have to turn the motor if he does it like I do it, without an air compressor. Turn the motor so that the piston holds the valves up. It's basically just as fast as using a compressor because at any given time, 2 cylinders will be at TDC and you can do 4 valve springs per crank turn.

Can they come out without taking the top hose off and opening the system ?

I want to spin the motor so I am not using the threads to pull down the rocker to torque it. Don't want to be the one who pulls all the threads out trying to cinch it down and open a valve.
