Tint Removal
Hey all,
Decide to get the windows re-tinted, been a while I am assuming since they have been on, the passenger front was bubbling. So I took it to the shop and they were able to get the doors done, but the rear glass is a different story. It came up in different layers and they couldn't completely get the last layer off. covering approximately 45% of the glass. They informed me they would have to use a razor and will damage the defrosters. Negative, took the car and now I have this mess. Tried using the ammonia and garbage bag trick, nothing. Took a razor to it as gently as possible, nicked some of the defroster, where what I see is the copper to the defroster. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to safely remove this stuff? Dont feel like paying for a whole new glass because of the defrosters and i dont know if i did any damage to the defrosters already.

I've never tried it but I have seen video on YouTube showing guys using steamers pretty successfully to get it off. I looked into it myself after getting a warning slip from the PO PO but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

i just did this on my impala ss . i sprayed 409 on the window and then put a garbage bag on it . left it in the sun for 20 minutes and it came off great . If i did it again i would leave it for 30 or 35 min .
I used ammonia to get the tint glass off . When i got my window re tinted sunday the tinter said he uses a steamer now to do it .

He said he did use the steamer, hes done a 50/50 mix with 409 and windex. This stuff is on there pretty good. It just patches of a thing layer all over the rear glass and I dont want to scrape off the defroster in the process

Straight laqure thinner with a few microfibres , wear gloves , saturate rag rub until it comes soft, wipe up with new dry towel. Repeat with new microfibre so you don't smear it around.

No its the last layer of the tint, when I get home today I will take a picture. You can see a thin film. Most from the top is off, but there is still a lot on the bottom and it is very difficult to get scrape off

Here are some pictures. It is kinda hard to see but where it is darker is the think layer of tint that is still on the window. I am currently trying to use acetone to hopefully weaken it some and maybe a heat gun as well.

Yea its a real pain in the ***, The acetone so far has put bubbles in between the tin and glass so that a good sign, but don't know how effective it really is
