Need a quiet semi sporty tire.
I feel like this is maintenance month, I pulled the V out and have been driving it more now than in the last two years, now all these little repairs are popping up.
I have had Michelin Pilot PS2s on here and BFG G Force TAs. I am looking to go from 245/45/18 to 255/35/18 all around. The car is lowered on H&R springs and the 245/45/18 rub on bumps or hard corners, they are just too tall for being lowered. I am thinking 255/35/18 would work ok, get a little more rubber, and lower the sidewall enough to avoid rubs.
I will be driving a lot of freeway miles, and would like tires to be quiet with a good treadwear rating. However I am not trying to get something so soft the car feels like jello around corners.
I kind of have my eye on Michelin Pilot Sport AS3. They come with a 50,000 mile warranty. Someone recommended Barum Bravuris tires, they are like $86 each and come with a 40k warranty, sounds fishy and I have never heard of them, but they would be good for commuter tires if they are safe, very skeptical on these though.
Any thoughts on the jump to 255/35 and quiet sporty recommendation?

Why 255/35? Those are ~1.7" shorter than stock and are going to look pretty stupid IMO.
I'll second the recommendation for the Continental DW - I've used them on 2 cars and been very happy with them. They're very smooth-riding and quiet, yet still offer outstanding cornering grip.

I've been happy with my Michelin pilot super sports in terms of road noise. I also had a set of Continental DW's on my last Subaru. Also a very quiet summer only tire and they were wearing well before I sold the car. I believe the Conti's are rated for a longer tread wear than the PSS.

I'm running the new Nitto NT555 G2's in 245/45r18 that just came out in January. Quiet tire with lots of grip. Can lay into it in first with zero spin...Couldn't say that about the Hankook evos I had.
I've had them on for about 6k miles...tread seems to be wearing good.

I had the conti DW's, Grip was great but they seemed to get flat spots when I let the car sit a day or two... Felt like a really bumpy ride for a few miles then were good again, not sure what was up. I just got some Falken fk453's and they grip phenomenal and are super quiet..a lot of reviews said they wear pretty fast though so we shall see.

I`m running kumho ecsta 4x II`s and they are great. The car had yokohama advian`s when I bought it and they had decent traction but not like the kumho`s. I had a set of goodyear eagle RSA`s on the back for a little while and they had no where near the traction of the kumho`s.

So you guys got me rethinking the sizes. 35 sidewall may be too thin, the car is lowered though so I won't look crazy high like a stock V would. I am tempted to go 255/40 but I want to make sure they don't rub. Anyone have experience with these sizes on H&R lowering springs?

I'm running stock 245/45 on H&R springs, but my camber is about -1.9 degrees so I may not be much help..I had 255/45 on for a while in the rear and it never rubbed. My fronts however did...Until I rolled the fenders.
It may be worth seeing if you can get a shop to roll them for you so you don't have to worry about it anymore.

I'll throw in another for the Continental DW. I'll be replacing them with the same when the time comes. My treadwear has been a little skewed due to some alignment issues and worn suspension parts, but I still managed to get about 30k out of them so far. Will probably need new tires in 5k or so.

Did tires get cheaper? Why are these things so cheap? These are decent tires, there has to be a catch with $80 per tire.

Even the DWs are cheap, around $600 for a set. I remember tires being $1200 or so.

another vote for Michelin pilot super sports. Bought them when discount tire had it's sale going. Paid about 700$ for a full set. They are awesome tires. Evreything feels better with those tires, steering, braking etc...
