Just wanted to update this thread. The cause of my binding was indeed from the bronze isolator cup. Had it replaced with a new OEM plastic cup, everything is free again. I'm not the only one to have had trouble with an ill fitting cup. Someone recently even installed one that was to loose. My shifter linkage is still tack welded, no problems from that.

Good to know. Seems like the brass would have wore and freed up eventually.
