Default Weird 05 CTS-V battery issue???

Just bought the car, randomly on the Nav Screen it will post up a check battery alert. The battery appears to be charging and its never had trouble starting.

You all have any ideas?

Thanks.

What does your voltage look like, and have you bothered to open the hood and see if the posts are clean and not all funky/gunky for a clean connection?

Yep, did all that stuff. Voltage is always over 13.3 volts, light never dim. Could be a ground but I am not seeing any bad grounds.

I thought maybe it was a glitch like the oil temperature gauge fault.

You need to check grounds with a meter as a visual isn't good enough.

The two main electrical problems in a V1 are the shitty grounds and matching battery.

Thanks, I will take it to my shop this weekend and check all the grounds. Is there a particular area I should focus on, I know I was reading up and there seems to be a few areas that cause electrical problems on the V1 .

Had the alternator tested, they believe it's going bad. Where could I get one for a descent price?

You have to get the OEM or get the OEM rebuilt.

I got a replacement here:

http://fastlanepartssupply.com/shop/...mp-alternator/

I had to go for the higher output for my application.

Unless you specifically want a higher output, then follow heavy metals suggestion. If you're on a budget, RockAuto has one for $159 + $70 core charge.

Is the higher output overboard for someone with a maggied v and no stereo upgrades? You guys think the stock output is adequate?

Only if you start adding a bunch of loads to the electrical.

The maggie just adds a water pump (intercooler) and the Magna-volt is not a big load, plus it only works when running (maybe).

Why do you have to get OEM?

It is the only one that will fit.

Rebuilds have a core charge because of this.

IMO better to get a reliable shop to rebuild it even if you have to ship it.

Mines making a bit of noise, so I'm thinking of going this route, also.

Lemme know how it works out!

I am going to have mine rebuilt. Have a Russian that has rebuilt all my tractor and back hoe alternates, does it for cheap. ( relatively speaking)

Just talked to the women, she drives the car. She says it only acts up in stop and go traffic, never the highway
