Ed Mod thread
#7
"Ed Mod" was a term I coined back when we were fighting with H&R springs that dropped us 2-3x more than advertised. "EdmundGTP" (?) came up with a solution that I've been running for a few years now and has stood the test of time to this point. Basically just a hard-durometer "donut" cut out to shim the top and/or bottom of the spring inside its perch. I'm running a ~3/8" on the top AND bottom of my rear springs and it rides at a perfect height now. No tire rub, etc. OP - search threads that I've posted in/started. Most titles have "H&R" and "lowering" in the titles. You'll find all the info there. What exactly were you looking for?

Pretty sure he's referring to the suspension mod where take a 3/8 sheet of rubber and cut a disk that will fit just inside of the rear spring perches in order to raise the rear of the car slightly because the H&R's tend to sag or sit too low for peoples liking.

Anyway... do the mod if you're not happy with ride height man. There are literally zero adverse effects from it. You might have to do a little trial and error with what size spacer makes you happiest, but that's really not a big deal. I'm actually going to be adding a 1/8" spacer to the FRONT as well... sometime, anyway.

That's why I got into this too. 19x10's with 275's out back. H&R's lowered more than 2", so I was getting tire rub quite frequently. This is definitely an easy, cheap, and safe remedy. Seems to be standing the test of time too.

I've got approximately 3/8" spacers on the top AND bottom of the spring and I think the ride height is perfect. I can fit 1 finger between my fender lip and the top of my summer wheels/tires. Closer to 2 fingers with the OEM winter tires/wheels. With the stand-offs removed from my mightymouse shock spacers, the nivomats now kick in exactly when I want/need them to, rather than being completely inoperable with them being installed as originally instructed. With minimal/no weight in the trunk or back seat, the nivomats don't mess with my ride height at all. But when I've got a few humans in the back seat or 10 big bags of mulch in the trunk, the nivomats adjust for the extra load and the height gets pumped back up to a safe level. It took a lot of dickin' around, but I'm finally happy with the rear. Now I just want the front end raised a 1/4" or less. ........I'm a little OCD.
