Exclamation 04 V - Keeps shredding belts

I recently replace my alternator and belt tensioner. Now my V keeps shredding belts. I checked all the pulleys, no debris in the grooves, no rough edges. I triple checked to make sure everything is tightened down. Only thing I could possibly see as the issue is a little bit of play in the power steering pulley. I can actually move it in and out on the shaft maybe 1-2mm (estimated). But I didn't think it would matter if the belt was installed and under tension.

Any ideas?

Your belt routing is wrong. I bet your belt goes from p/s pump to idler then to alt doesn't it? Run the belt straight down from p/s to alt then up to idler and then down around the balancer.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Don't mind the blower routing, the rest is same as stock.

That and check the alternator bolt that hides right underneath the belt. The clearance there is very small and if the bolt is backed off at all it will rub. Don't ask me how I know this.

I see there is a little bit of "wobble" in the crank pulley. Is this normal?

mine has been tearing the back rib off the belt....need to check pulley alignment and for damage to pulleys and also routing according to Raven's pic.....

I know one thing..my tensioner is not positioned like Ravens...it's almost on the stop for full loose....(more vertical)

That's pretty standard for the stock balancer. I have seen a couple actually separate. My friends V actually came apart and cut his brake line so keep an eye on it.

Yeah I'd pic up a new belt and tensioner and double check the routing.

This is not as common on LS6 models, but the crank pulleys tend to go bad on LS2 models. It's still possible for an LS6 pulley to need replacing as they are all externally balanced. I'd recommend an aftermarket replacement as they are much better than the stock pieces.

That's a good point. Mine has been off for months though without issue. My first belt shredded because (from what I think) a bad tensioner and/or improper routing. 3 belts later and I have it routed correctly. I have an extra belt and tools in the car with me, we'll see if it shreds again. I'm definitely going to budget to replace the crank pulley soon. I just don't feel good looking at that wobble. 81.5k on the car.
