Combo Ideas (mild/stealthy setup)
What does everyone think? I want a street friendly / daily driver combo. Here's what I had in mind:
TEA LS6 Stage 1 heads (would re-use stock LS6 valves)
BTR Stage II N/A cam 227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2
or
Tick Stage 1 cam 229/232 | .61x”/.57x” | LSA113+3
BTR Trunion Kit
LS2 Chain
OBX Longtubes with high flow cats
Bone stock catback
LS7 clutch kit
G-Force Axles
Various bushing upgrades (rear differential, trans mount, motor mounts)
Oil pump upgrade?
Car will be a daily driver. Goal is more power with excellent street manners. Not interested in best 1/4 mile time, hard launches or squeezing every bit of hp out of the stock shortblock.
I just want a very noticeable increase in power...for merging onto the highway.

BTR cannot be beat. Stand up guy and he knows his ****. I'd go with the BTR cam (not much diff between them) and get his SLR lifters also. I'd go with a stock GM LSA/LS4 pump. It's higher press/vol over stock at the price of a stock one.

I cant find the link to the h/c package with trickflow heads, would love to go that route
FYI my car with long tubes and stock resonator sounded fine, I deleted it since my car is so low and it scraped everything. Replaced it with a regular x pipe and it made the stock mufflers sound so bad

Get the LPE GT2-3 with their ported heads. Its nice and not so loppy, but gives you great power. You may also get their GT11 cam, its a little loopy but behaves very well.
Be prepared to pay out about 3,000-4,000 for everything.
I like your headers to stock exhaust, it will give you great tq at a sacrifice of a little hp.
Talk with Jeff, he will get you set up right...

The cam and heads seem to make sense but my concern with this package is introducing a droning exhaust system into my daily driver. You hear stories of it and I don't want to go there at all.
So with a tune, long tubes and new hi-flow cats working through an otherwise stock exhaust system, what kind of power increase can you expect and does it work well on a DD?

you could always create something similar to a corsa or borla exhaust that'd have a little better flow characteristic to it, but still be fairly mild until your into the happy pedal.

so long as there is some form of a resonator and actual mufflers in the system, i don't see how it can drone that awfully. my catback is stock until the back quarter of it where the previous owner installed some bullet mufflers and magnaflow tips. it looks good and sounds better than stock, but it does drone a little. legitimate mufflers would probably get rid of all of that.
the problem with the B&B exhaust is that it's a 3" system. if you stick to the modest 2.5" systems you'll likely be able to keep the drone and overall volume down to a manageable level. i never understood why everyone wants to drive a car that's downright loud as hell all the time.

From what I have seen over the years, there is not a lot of hp or torque picked up by swapping out a modern day catback. Some of them sound badass and I'd probably do the swap to go louder on a weekend cruiser, but I hate drone and do not want a loud vehicle for my daily driver. I would expect the longtubes and high-flow cats to add a little bit of sound, but my guess would be that the stock catback would keep the drone in check while not sacrificing much hp if any.
Well, I think I have put together a pretty good combo. I'd be happy with 400-415rwhp in this car.

As a daily driver with stock exhaust and the upgrades i mentioned you are going to be 380-400 rear wheel realistic. If you go all out with gt11 and new injectors and ud pulley 420-430. But ur payin for it.
Dont expect to break the sound barrier on a few upgrades..
Stay with stock exhaust for no drone everything else has drone, dont be fooled

i would still pull the heads and do lifters and **** though. but i think personally i am just going to cam my V and skip aftermarket heads. maybe throw a n2o kit on it if i really feel the need for some HP.

Maybe I'm overthinking it...or maybe I've got a good plan?

The heads are $1338 from TEA and include ".650” dual springs and Titanium retainers" which I'd have to purchase anyway going with an aftermarket cam. So actually, I'm paying $1k for the ported heads and that would leave the option of going with a FAST, TB and bigger injectors down the road.
Maybe I'm overthinking it.
