Default trouble shifting into 5th

Recently I've had issues hitting 5th gear. I've had it grind a couple times, usually on colder mornings. Then some harder grinds like I'm heading into reverse, wtf?

Isn't there supposed to be a lockout? I'd think this would keep me from going past the 5&6 gate...but mine definitely goes past. Getting into 6th no problem, 5th I'm either completely missing it or getting blocked? It feels like threading a damn needle.

Previous owner said that CAGS was removed via the tune. Is this a part that fails? Most of the reverse lockout threads are about people unable to shift into reverse....mine seems to be up for it even when doing 70mph.

Sounds like 5th gear blocker ring/syncronizer issues. How many miles?

Slightly more off topic - but can CAGS be removed via a tune?

My reverse lockout doesn't really work until it warms up. Everything else works fine and shifts smooth. 45k miles on an 05 fwiw.

My lockout has quit completely, which makes me just skip 5th any more. I'm an 05 with 82k miles.

100k miles....
Sometimes it feels impossible to get into fifth, and other times it goes right in....so I think I'm missing it. Not a big deal I can usually use 6th...but I hate having stuff that does not work.

Do you know what shifter and bushings/mods are in there? Maybe you're losing what little precision the thing has due to worn bushings or loose shifter cup? I could see 5th simply being difficult to find when the lockout isn't working.
