Default Leaky fuel tank

Guys, so last weekend at OC cruise my fuel tank sprung a leak. I took it to the dealership and they said it was not caused by the fuel module recall. They said the driveshaft had rubbed on the heat shield and rubbed a hole in the tank. It's an 07 Ctsv. Has anyone seen this? Can I patch the tank? They want 1900 for a tank and to install. Will a CTS tank fit or is it different from a CTSV?

Wow, this is new. And I'm not sure how its possible. For 1900$ you could have a whole new fuel system capable of 1000+hp .....so I would tell the dealer to off. Not sure about the tank though, I can imagine they are the same as a base cts but don't know for sure. Slide under there and snap a few pics. Or ask the dealership mechanic to if its still over there. Could always go fuel cell in the trunk route. Good luck!

Would rather not have a fuel cell. Going to have them put the old tank back in and try to patch it myself for now. Wonder why the DS was so close.

Did they do the recall? If they did this seems fishy. There would have been signs of it when they did it and they should have said something. Do you have a different drive shaft or ever did anything with your tank? If it really wasn't their fault a CTS tank should work fine just swap out the module.

They did the recall. It was leaking before they completed the recall and I was hoping the leak was caused by the recall. Still has the stock driveshaft in the car. They have not even put the tank back in because they are trying to find a "cheaper" option for me lol

More likely to get hit by lightning than have the driveshaft rub a hole in the tank. The driveshaft is a few inches away from the tank. More likely that while they were pulling the tank for the recall the managed to puncture the tank.

The tank was already leaking before it went in for the recall so it couldn't of been caused by them. Would a bad carrier bearing cause the driveshaft to move enough?

The reason I ask is that the carrier bearing the joins the driveshaft was making noise the night before the leak appeared.

Also the car is lowered with eibach adjustables so I am sure that would bring the driveshaft closer to the fuel tank.

Ride hieght has nothing to do with it.
Only thing I can think off is your diff bushing was shot and the driveshaft was moving up and down a lot with the diff

That could be. I will have to check it out when I get it back. The dealer found a used tank and are going to put it in for me.

A driveshaft rubbed a hole in a gas tank... now I've heard everything.

Did you ever get pics of this? I'd be interested in seeing what happened.

Your rear differential is in a fixed position in relation to ride height. Lowering springs would NOT have put your driveshaft any closer to the tunnel. The only difference lowering makes are your CV joint angles on the axle shafts. Something is wrong there.
