Default Header install, which parts are additional suggested

Like the title said, i wanna make a Header swap with 1 7/8" catted OBX headers!

I wanna make a "big wash up", engine with tranny comes out and i also put in CS Motor Mounts, LS7 clutch with Luk 04-216 kit and single-mass flywheel, tranny overhauling with shorter 6. (0.56>0.69) new camaro guibo, drive shaft with Touareg parts and new stiffer middle bearing and some mods to get rid of all shifting issues in the gear shift linkage and also a PMC master kit, so here are my questions:

What about the header gasket, should i take oem or what is the best, read something of fel-pro?

What about starter wrapping, can i use this part:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/381247234663?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
What about the starter cable plug, read it would melt and make some issues, is it this one here:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...nid=532&jpid=0

Can i precaution a melting plug with this heat shield shown above?

And what about heat protection on spark plugs and cable, should i use only this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spark-Plug-Wire-Boot-Heat-Shield-Protectors-Set-of-8-Eight-LS1-LS6-/190867648363?hash=item2c70992f6b&vxp=mtr
or a complete protection like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261871128400?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
where are the advantages and disadvantages in these parts?!

Didnt want a whole wrap of header tubing or a ceramic coating!

Every thoughts are welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Ronald

If you wrap your headers then you don't need the wire socks. I got coated and i wrapped the headers. Dont forget fluids. I went with amsoil for the tranny and motul rbf for the clutch. Get a tick bleeder line for the trans.I also wrapped the started. I took the time to run a new ground wire for the oil temp sensor. I used stock gm header gaskets. New bolt for all the things i was changing.

DO NOT WRAP THE HEADERS. For the plugs get the socks. For the rest

Look at the recent post on here about wrapping headers. Just get them coated or leave them bare. I have bare Kooks headers and nothing has melted. I protect everything around them.

Don't waste your time with that plug, unless you're trying to keep the stock starter?

If you need to replace the starter get the one from a truck or an H2 and cut that connector off then replace it with a ring terminal.

Here, since I know searching is hard: https://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-...t-starter.html

If it aint broke don't fix it.

You can save some money on header gaskets by just cleaning and reusing the stock parts. You can hit them with some cleaner to remove any carbon build up and reuse them. I had no problem getting them to seal.

Not to derail the OP; but a coworker and I were discussing the header wrap vs coated vs nothing, I have mine wrapped, his are coated, should I unwrap my headers and leave them uncoated until I have the time to get them coated? My other car is out of commission for several weeks, but this has got me thinking hard about removing the wrap, and removing it stat.

If you can take it off with out taking the headers off, then yes. Otherwise your call. My headers were wrapped for three years and about 20k miles.

Completely uncoated is better than wrapped. It's either air+water+corrosion or air+water+corrosion+abrasion.

I would also look at ordering ARP studs for the headers. I had two broken bolts when I went to install mine. I ran B&B headers and was able to install headers with studs already in place. Hands down easiest set of headers I have ever installed, didn't have to beat on them once.

Yes, you are right, but $30+ is a lot of money for bog-standart M8 bolts, i will use stainless studs and stainless hex nuts like this one here:

Best experiences on exhaust at my old 545i...

Best regards,
Ronald
