Default Instrument Cluster replacement/repair

So my left LCD screen went out on my cluster, or fades out. You can still kind of see the information, on a hot Texas day it works like normal until the cab cools off and it slowly fades back out. Took it to a dealership and they couldn't get a read on the cluster through the tech 2. Is it because I have a aftermarket head unit? I also have my on star disconnected too. The technician couldn't answer my questions, showed some frustration at me. Also, I called a few local repair shops, one seems confident that they can fix the screen, would you guys recommend it or play it safe with a frustrated tech =D

The cluster, I am wondering if my aftermarket radio is the reason why the tech 2 won't talk to the cluster

I would assume that the VIN would have to be programmed by a dealer as is almost everything in these cars. The communication piece could be a bad cluster as well. If you decide to go the route of swapping it out let me know. Hope you get it figured out.

Yea I hope so, I just don't know why I would need the radio to talk to my instrument cluster and I can't get it fixed if they cant talk to it

Really iffy subject with which to choose.

First off, I would not do any business with anyone that showed me any frustration for a problem I was having. It's my problem not yours, get over it.

But I would prefer to have a different dealership look at it, unless of course that shop that is confident they can fix it has already had an issue like yours and resolved it.

Best of luck!
