Default Air pump question

Does anyone know if engine will pass emissions if the A.I.R is not operating?

Usually, when AIR isn't working, you get an MIL. If you do, it's an automatic fail.

Hate to sound ignorant, but what's a MIL.

Not sure, but MIL light SHOULD be auto fail since that's what it was designed to do.

But the last emissions test I had in Ontario sniffed when the engine was fully warmed, and the A.I.R. only runs when engine is cold, so you might be o.k.

Good to know guys. The check engine is not a problem because there isn't one. It's a transplant into a Porsche 968 and until July I had it figured out. The new regs after July 2010 call for the emissions test to be based on the engine year so it appears that if I get it tested on a warm engine it should be OK.

Yes. Will pass fine. The only problem is at startup if cold, and for a visual check.

For the Drive clean test they don't do a visual anymore and only note that the MIL is on. If it passes the sniffer thats all they care. Roadside MOE guys will bust you on visual for missing items at $400 a piece.
