approx. Hp Tq
I'm trying to get a baseline for hp/tq on my current project. Hopin someone has an idea where I'd be. I have a 2006 lq4 with 799 heads(stock with upgraded springs) for the cam which is a 220/224 w/ .575 lift 112 lsa. intake is a performer rpm with center milled like an airgap with a holley dp hp carb running through a built 700r4 with a 3000 stall. 3:70 gear stock 9bolt rearend and car is a 89 GTA trans am. where should I be to the wheels currently? would I be able run low 11's with this setup on drag radials?

I'm using hawks stainless 1 3/4 with 3" collectors. What kind of 1/4 mile time would you guess with this setup? has no ac, alum driveshaft, subframe connectors, lower control arms, panhard bar adjustable. stock ws6 springs all around. no sway bar up front. removed rear seats, carpet. has t-tops. fiberglass hood. removed bumber supports, along with fog lights, I've never weighed yet, just guessing 3400 with me, I may be off some. My goal is low 11's.

You have a combo that will have great drivability and all around torque and power. If you are aiming for a certain performance number or are going racing, I think you should be thinking Victor Jr., better heads, more compression and a higher stall converter. Its all about the combo and just a cam is not gonna do it alone.

I completely agree with you on there being no "magic cam". But like you said, the combination of the parts together. The cam I currently have may not be the right one for the current combo. I originally bought this camshaft for a 5.3 swap, but ended up with a 6.0 before it was all said and done. I knew up front the 220/224 was a small cam, but made good torque and was a good street cam.

That cam is actually a very good cam for your intake and converter choice. I had a Comp 222/224 .556"/.568" initially and swapped it out for an EPS 226/234 .598"/.612". I gained about 5 to 10 HP with the swap and all of that was on the top. The car did not go any quicker in the 1/8th mile, but had 1 more mph.
My car went 7.40s in the 1/8th and 11.70s in the quarter with the 222/224, Performer RPM, 2800 converter and a 750 Holley. My car is 3725 with me in it but I have CNC ported LS6 heads. I would say the heads are probably about an even trade for our weight differences, so I am guessing your car will run about the same numbers.
The intake your are running has pretty small ports internally, so it kind of limits the high rpm breathing and potential, but has amazing torque down low and in the midrange. That is why I say just a cam won't do it. Now if you wanted to change the intake and torque converter, then I would definitely go bigger on the cam if you want to run low 11s.

Thats good information! With the ported ls6 heads, did you do any porting to the rpm manifold to aid breathing there? I know milling the center seemed to help in the 4000+ rpm on my setup. I'm guessing a 1" spacer would also do the same thing, I just didn't have the hood clearance. I've thought of doing some pocket porting to the RPM manifold, I just wanted to see what it ran first without. The Cam suggested to me by Pat G was similar to the new one you changed to.

If you really want a bigger cam. I think you could go as far as something like 230 duration @ .050' and your car will still run great with that intake and converter. If you switch to a single plane intake with a 230 @ .050" cam or bigger, you will want a higher stall converter.
