I think your going to be suprised..

Which tick cam ?

I just got mine going so I haven't been to the track yet.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty confident my 5.3 will break into the low 12s-high11s pretty easy on motor.
It feels pretty strong on the street.

Mine is in a 3000# S10.

I think that you need either a 4.10 or a 26" tire. And if you did both it would help where the 5.3 lacks torque over the larger engines just to help it get rolling.

4.10 minimum on the gearing. Especially if its drag only.

But are you running 1/8th mile or 1/4 mile on a regular basis?

1/8th mile you can actually go to a bit higher than 4.10, say 4.30 or 4.56. it will keep the engine in the upper RPM range where it loves to be. But you will run out of gear with 4.56 in the 1/4 and just max out the engine... I have only gotten 4.10 to max out 6000 rpm at just over 98 mph and that was with a turbo 400 transmission. But it was a 14 inch street tire also. So maybe 110-120 max. And make sure your driveshaft is balanced if you have changed anything on it. It is a small investment that keeps your driveline components happy by not having vibration.

these are some stout motors. with just a few modifications, 400+ hp is not at all unreachable. and even more if you are willing to go into head porting and stuff like that. My stock 5.3 was docile as can be on the EFI, and now that I have the carb setup it is a whole different animal.

All in time. I only have a couple small things and one big thing (windshield) left to do and I will be able to start making passes..
