Default TREX cam ls1 in a 66 el camino

whats up I would like to hear some opinions on my set up what plugs and timing would you guys recommend?

1966 el camino should weigh 2950 with me in it
98 ls1 110k untouched bottom end
806 heads with bowl clean up milled 10 thousands comp springs
trex cam
victor jr
holley 750 hp series (jet size: 75 up front 82 in the rear)
msd 6010. 12* 0-900, 20* 1000-1800, 25* 2000-2500, from there 30* all in

power glide with t-brake
4200 bradco 9 inch nitrous converter

12 bolt 456 gears 28x10.5

I have tr6 plugs in it now and it runs f*in hard past 4000 rpm but I pull the plugs and they are fat with a white strap so im pretty sure plugs are too cold?
what plugs and jets should I put in it and what is a good timing curve if mine isn't any good lol

thanks Justin

I'd go 73/81 on the jets..that's what I ran on a 4779 back in the day..roughly a 500 horse NA application. 50cc accelerator in front also
The timing seems decent but rarely do LS engines need more than 26-28 due to the efficiency of the combustion chamber.
Your headers and the pulling/scavenge effect of your exhaust has alot to do with both of these parameters as well.

Look at my combo with the trex and then run a couple degrees less for the compression. Should get you in the ball park for tuning the carb.

Have you fly cut your pistons?

That^ would be a concern since a trex is the largest cam for a LS1 that can be installed "usually" without fly cutting and it says it was milled .010.

Nope no fly cut yet..it barely fits piston to valve is close but all good..after this month i think im going to pull it apart to re-ring and bearing mill the head 20 more thousands and fly cut the pistons and do rod bolt im not confortable spinning the stock short block past 6800 but i know the cam wants atleast 7200

When you are making those upgrades, you should also look into advancing that cam a few degrees. In talking to some of the prominent LS cam experts like Martin at Tick, most of them specify any earlier intake valve close for camshafts to be used with single plane intake manifolds. This is due to the short intake runners that single plane intakes have in comparison to the long runner plastic intakes that camshaft was designed to be used with. However, advancing the cam will require that you cut valve reliefs in the pistons.

Trex likes timming, do be afraid to go 30s, will make more power cam only on 93 with 10%ethonhal (NYS) then most others that dont gain 26-28. race fuel extra 02 will make more power over 30 even, 33 redline 7+ in kill mode ramped up form peak tq as normal. I have no carb info with trex, just saw this title and know a litle bit about da OG Trex. fast inake, 1/78 dumped, stock 241s,3k raceweight setup

i have stock heads always ran the stock tr55s .055 made 450whp cam only with that. Im not a tuner but use somone that is very good. i just know some basics- engines are most knock respectable at peak tq,after that you can ramp up timming, and what I said about a Trex for adv. numbers, try it and see. thats efi stock intake COP you can get alot of deivabty with timming and afr non wot but thats stuff I let the tuner do

I run 35* on my trex 6.0. But I have milled 317s. So 33* with better compression in a LS1 would probably be better.

Default update

went to the track this last weekend for the first time. ran best of 11.503@116, 1.69 60ft, 7.39@94 1/8 mile with it on the limiter at about 1000ft.
I think there in definitely more left in it I need to tune the suspension the car isnt dead hooking and this tight nitrous converter is hurting my motor times very badly..with some more carb and suspension tuning I believe there is some 11.teens-twenties..
the car picked up 3 tenths and 7 mph for adding 2 degrees of timing and raising the limiter from 6800 to 7000 each pass kept gaining both et and mph.

next home track day isn't for a couple weeks thinking about traveling a couple hours to a track and do a little more tuning then put the bottle to it and see how far into the 10s I can get

Tail gate up will slow your MPH down for sure. That is why I asked.
