Default fuel pump and regulator?

So I am building a 408ci engine with an s480 turbo and shooting for 700+hp I just had a few questions about the fuel pump and regulator I have a 255 in tank pump right now and was just wondering if that would get me started or if I should go with something bigger and with the regulator do I want one with a boost reference?

Thanks for the help
Jesse

I would go ahead and get a aeromotive A1000 with the boost reference regulator setup. That was it would be no questions asked.

Ok I haven't really looked to far in to it yet but I've heard that if your going to use the a 1000 for the street you need to have a pulse with modulator or something for it so it doesn't burn up?

Also could I just put the a1000 in line after the 255 or should I just take out the 255 and only have the a 1000 in line

Too big of a pump is just a noisy pain in the ***. Why not upgrade to an Aeromotive A340 pump? Should fit where your 225 lph pump sits and Aeromotive claims they are good to 900 HP on a forced induction carb motor. Half the price of the A1000 plus whatever you save by not having to buy new fittings.

You might look at the flow curve for your 225 lph pump. That is the flow rating at EFI pressures. At carb pressures it will flow quite a bit more.

Most return style carb regulator will work with boost, like a Mallory 4309

That was my original thought I was going to go with a 340 but thought it was best to check with you guys who have done this before eventually I would like to brake in the the 1000hp mark so if I go with the 340 or just keep my 255 and see how it works and I need more would it be ok to just put the a1000 in line and and leave the other pump in the tank ?

how do you run a efi pump with a carb and no regulator? I thought pressures for the carb had to be low? im going to run mine at 7psi. you can run a high pressure pump on a carb setup?

Im getting ready to start purchasing parts I was looking at the Bosch 044 inline and the Mallory 4309 regulator. Just trying to keep the cost down if I outgrow it I will worry about it then.

You need some type of regulator. Most carb pumps that don't require an external regulator have one built in. running something like a Bosch or Walbro is nice cause you have the option of working with carb or EFI. I think Aeromotive has a regulator that can be set up to work with either EFI or carb pressures.

The OP needs a big pump because of his HP goals. 700 HP is nothing to fool around with, you need to put some effort into getting the fuel system right.
