Default Whats a good cam for low end power and tq

I have a stock lq9 with a dual plane intake and a 750hp carb. I am looking for a cam that's going to make good hp and tq without having to spin the motor to 6500rpm. The Trans is a 700r4 with 3200 stall and the rear has 373 gears. Thanks

I can say, after seeing my edelbrock 2215 make max power at 6500 in my 4.8, the same cam in a 6.0 would reach max power by 6-6200, and you could stretch it to 6500 if you wanted to.

When I first built my car, I had an LQ9 with a dual plane Edelbrock Performer and a 2800-3000 stall with 3.90 gears. The cam I started with was the Comp Cams XR275hr12 (222/224 .566"/.568" on 112+3). That setup had power everywhere. In fact, first trip to the drag a trip that combo pushed my #3780 car to an 11.76 @ 113 with a 1.65 60' time on the first pass hot off of the street.

With your 3200 converter you can probably run any of the popular 220 or 224 cams with a 112 LSA or tighter. Also, that dual plane will like an ICL in the 106 to 109 area with a 220s duration cam. Lots of choices for want you want to do.

How much does your vehicle weigh? What kind of exhaust system do you have? Do you want it to lope at idle or do you want a smooth idle?

That cam is into the 230+ duration @ .050", so it is on the large side for somebody with a street car who specified an emphasis on torque. If you want more of a hotrod type idle I would pick this cam for what you are doing over the Torquer V2:

I have a very similar cam in my car now and it is very strong and sounds good. For that cam, tick offers milder or more aggressive lobes, if it were me, I would pick the milder lobes. They are just a better choice for the average street car in my opinion.

It's a 91 s10 short bed ext.cab that has a stock lq9 motor with a dual plane intake and a 750hp. The headers are 1-5/8 mid length with 3 inch exhaust. The Trans is a 700r4 with a 3200 stall. The rear has 373 gears with a 26 inch tall tire. The truck weight is 3250. The motor is bone stock with stock 317 heads.

Tigger's suggestion is a good one for your application.

The Stage 2 IMO will be a great fit for your combination of parts and your emphasis on torque.
