you spend 5k now and youll spend another 5k later, how long will that transmission last? engine? maintenance?
I would rather spend the extra 2k up front and find a decent on with under 90k miles

Gah. Offer $3,000 and go for $3,500-$4,000 if you really want it, but if you can only afford a $5,000 car, you can't afford to maintain that car in a year or so when it starts to fall apart.
Look around, man. Go for around 80,000 miles. KBB has an 80,000-mile 1999 Z28 at:
Excellent $5,615;
Good $5,140;
Fair $4,565.

My experience
I bought a 2000 camaro Z28 with the B4C package with 145k on it for 4500 and it lasted till 170k when i leaned out the car a little too much and the head gasket cut loose. i wouldnt let the mileage scare you away if i had to do it all over again i would definitly do it. My .02$

these prices are great, but it seems in my area (NC) people think they need to get a premium for anything with an LS1. I've seen bone stock 100K+ cars where people were asking more than 10K. I know this is crazy but i really want an LS1 car. You would think that on a site like this the prices would be reasonable since people here generally know what the cars are worth but if you go to the for sale section cars here are way overpriced too!!!
I agree...I buy and sell a lot of cars and I have never seen a LS1 F-Body in any kind of decent shape with less than 100,000 miles go anywhere near what he had listed for KBB. TAs and SSs bring a premium but Z28s have certainly held their value well. If the car is clean and runs good I wouldnt be scared of it at all. LS1s (if treated right) last forever!
