I have done them both ways and people will argue til your both blue in the face as to which way is easiest....

Me personally, I like taking it out the top.
All you need to take off is the Intake, accessories, remove radiator, exhaust, starter, unbolt the engine mounts, remove the bellhousing and flexplate bolts (for auto) and it's easiest to pull the transmission out first. Also, there is alot of ground wires and other misc. stuff to remove too. LMK if you need any advice or help.
As far as taking it out the top, just hook a chain from the drivers side head (in front) to the other head in the back.... (Passenger side head in the rear) and slowly pull it upwards and out at the same time. Watch everything close, especially the cowl. It will tear up the cowl if you are not careful.

GL and lmk if I can help.

Also if you decide to take it out the bottom, it's a little easier on a lift but can be done in the garage if you are very carefull. And make sure you get the car VERY HIGH!

ok cool. i have a friend who said he would lend me a hand.

do you have to pull the hood off the car? i only ask because it was a bitch putting the ultra z hood on my car and getting it to sit perfect. also they make a bracket that bolts where the knock sensors are with a lifting point in the center would that work with pulling it through the top? the chain might be a little better though.

Yes the lift plate is a good tool to have, But if you don't want to spend $50 on it, Just spend $5 on a chain and use it like I did.

And as far as the hood coming off, NO It can stay on. Just raise it up and be careful when pulling it out of the engine bay. It will be close, but if you constantly pull the hoist back as you raise the engine, It will NOT hit the hood!

You can check out my thread in this section if you'd like to. I have alot of pictures along the way when I was rebuilding the camaro....

If it were me, I'd go with the first one. The stainless one doesn't have as many adjustments... Just my .02!

wow summit only carries the second style. i think it might be better to use the second style because it is like a pivot and keeps it level at all times. but who knows. lol

Thats gay... LOL

Honestly man, I'd just use a chain. It is 10 times cheaper and it works GREAT! Trust me.

But either 1 of them will work the same if you do buy 1!

I took mine out the bottom.

The thing nice about it, is that you take less stuff off the car to remove the engine, but I had a lift too.
