A little disappointed with the new Camaro
I haven't done a search on this forum, but is anybody else disappointed with the performance numbers of the new camaro. In the GM high tech performance magazine the new camaro in automatic form only did the quarter mile in 13.38 seconds, and they were making a lot of excuses for it. Am I wrong or isn't that what they could about do 7 years ago. I don't mind the lines and I love the interior, but really is that all it has? With numbers like that I will not be selling my 2000 anytime soon.

I think a lot of people are dissapointed with the new camaro. Time will tell. I think we all had high expectations.
I have seen 13.0 M6's, by shops with stock SS's to set a baseline before they mod them. 13.4 is right on par with what the 4th gen ls2's did in A4's. I think we were all expectin to see better than the 12.8's that we saw from stock ls1 M6's.

The only thing I wish they would have integrated in the new camaro were the T-tops, a sunroof just doesn't do it for me. IMO it isn't worth the 7-10 thousand dollar mark up, Heck I don't know if I would pay the 30000 for it. I am not to proud to buy used and I would rather spend 30,000 on an 07 vette with low miles. Once again this is my opinion. Glad to know I am not the only one. I know it is all about camaro pride, but they could have done so much better.

Local chevy dealership has an 09 vette for $41K sticker. They also have an SS for $43K ( has ground FX) No brainer there. another dealership has the SS for $38K, I would still spend the extra $3K for the vette.

Added weight for safety
My father's old lady works for Ford in the weights and measures engineering department. She told me a few years ago that you'd be seeing all car manufacturers adding weight to their vehicles. This is done because of new government safety standards that are imposed on all manufacturers. Car manufacturers are trying to deal with getting the weights down on cars by looking into new materials. With this, they obviously have to measure the vehicle materials against the cost effectiveness, vehicle pricing, profit margin, etc.
This is obviously a more complex issue. They need to get safety standards up to meet the government but also need to get weights managed to boost mpg. A tough battle for car manufacturers.
For arguement sake. I'll keep my 2000 Camaro SS. 22 mpg city, 26 mpg highway. (Of course, if I'm babying it)

Yeah Z28 was right there then the whole shenanigans with Dictator I mean Pres Obama took control of GM now they are looking to these shitty band aid cars known as hybrids. We have some of the best minds in the world and we are not trying to get alternative fuel sources created now, instead we build hybrids and try to push them. Ohh well.
Sorry end of rant.
New camaro is kinda iffy, I love it, but I still say it is not a true camaro and the huge *** rims still are attrocious.

Come on now lets not blame it all on Obama. There is plenty of blame to go around. I personally don't think we should have bailed them out, at all, let them go under if they aren't profitable. IMO
