Default Marker Light Getting Hot/melting Bulbs And Sockets**help!!

I HAVE AN 02 B4C THAT IS MELTING THE LIGHTS(3157 BULBS) AND TURNING THE SOCKETS BLACK AND MELTING THEM ALSO. I HAVE REPLACED THEM TWICE.I WAS WONDERING IF(whoops was all caps) it's because the b4c came with a high output/high amp. alt. any body know ?? thanks

Oh by the way, this car was a florida highway patrol camaro with full lightbar etc. and i was wondering if maybe some wires are crossed from taking out all the stuff??? i aint got a clue.

i dont see the alternator being the problem, id say you have a wiring issue somewhere... and it could possibly be from what you stated above.

Have you checked to see if the light has a hole or a crack in it that is allowing water to short them out?

that could be a simple, yet easily overlooked problem

check the watts on the bulb you are using an what is recommended. if you are using "high intesity" bulbs, cheap ones, like off ebay they that might be your problem. replace the socket and try normal bulbs from an autopart store.

you can also use a multimeter to check the current going though the other side and compare it to the side that is melting.

Do you have light coverS? Some Light covers trap the heat from the bulbs and melt the lens. A friend of mine had a '98 Camaro with tail light covers and they melted the tail light lenses because of the heat. Just a thought.

Yep! the left side lens was allowing waterin. It heated up and that was that! thanks for the help. I have been outta town and busy last few weeks. You guys nailed it. thanks again

You may want to replace the sockets if they are black inside, they will go bad.
