Default alternater / coil pack questions please help

I was told that the coil packs off a 06 gto were almost 3 times stronger than fbody coils can anybody tell me if this is true. also have been told that the truck coils were stronger as well but not as strong as the gto coils.

Also I am tossing an underdrive pulley designed for an fbody on my motor as well as the rest of the fbody set up but will be running a hot stereo I have heard the truck/ gto alternators pushed out more power and where a direct bolt in without changing anything for a fbody pulley set up can anyone confirm.

Alll help greatly apreciated anlso if this stuff is true can yall supply me with part numbers as well. or years / models/ engine sizes that have the same part.

That's a bunch of crap. Unless you are running very high boost in your engine you do not need any kind of upgraded coil, and even then you don't.

As for the alternators I have no idea

I dunno but just thinking about the high compression old school engines that use a single coil in the area of 50k volts...I just really don't see there being any trouble with 8 separate coils

There are 2 truck coil designs, "round" and "square". It dosen't matter what year the truck motor was, they got both types, all depending on what was on the assembly line that day. The "square" delco truck coils are the strongest, many Fbody and vette guys run these coils when running boosted. In fact, alot of people run these over the hella-expensive MSD coils. If you are N/A, i would'nt bother switching coils, just run what you got.

Also...the truck alternators came in 105 amp and 130 amp versions. They both will bolt in place of the F-body alternator, but the 130 amp alternator casing is rather large, im not sure if it will clear the camaro accessory drive bracket without modification. You can pick up a truck alt from a yard for 30 bucks.

I've got the early Truck Coils that are the circular ones.

I know some of the Truck/F-body Alternators are interchangeable.

Actually the truck alternators came in 105, 130, and 145 amp models. I posted the part number of the 145 amp model in your other thread transamsam98.

LQ9Chevelle is correct, the casing is visibly larger, and you may have some clearance issues. It WILL bolt to the bracket without modification though.

The LS2 coils are considerably hotter than the LS1 coils. They have 3 times the rated output (120 ma vs. 40 ma). Some of the truck coils are hotter yet.

Someone posted a link to a video showing a comparison of the spark coming out of both coils. The LS2 coils have so much extra output you could even hear the difference in how loud the pop is.

The thread with the video link had all kinds of technical info showing the extra rated capacity of the later coils.
