Default Stock truck alternator too big to clear hood..My Options?

As the title says, I have stock truck front drive accessories from an 05 chevy truck and the alternator is huge. What are my options and how much would I gain by switching to that setup. Keep in mind how the wiring harness is on an 05 truck. Let me know, thanks.

In order to change the alternator location, to the vette or F body setup, you'll also have to change all the acessories and crank pulley to match the spacing.
There are some aftermarket relocation brackets, but most are for F body. You can try looking around and see if any can be adapted to the truck spacing.
Here's what I ended up doing.

Hi, I saw this a while ago on v8tvshow.com. On their GTO build they had the same problem, click on this link to see what they did.

Switching to the f-body alt will gain some, but not a lot. How much are you hitting by?

Kind of hard to tell, but I would say 1/2". How much smaller is the f-body alt?

How is it wired in and what year is it specifically off of?

it has the stock 4 wire plug. I think this one is off a 1999 s-10 4cyl. for reference, its 5 1/4" from the flat area on the bracket that says GND to the top of the alt.

lsxmalibu, what accessory setup is that? Would it be a standard truck setup without the PS? If so, what did you use for idler pullies and belt? Thanks.

Get a Denso alternator out of a import. Some of them are a good 2 inches smaller in diameter. You just have to match up the belt pulley then build some brackets to align the pulley with the rest of your stuff.

I pulled one off a 91 celica with a pulley off a supra and mounted it to the side of the motor in my 240z

I mounted mine off to the side cause I had no other accesories. but that denso alt should easily fit above the motor where the truck ones mount.

Looks good, did you use the stock belt or a shorter one? Also, it looks like a car intake; are you using a truck waterpump? I have a L92 that I may have to use the car intake on, depending on clearance. I'd like to stay with the truck alternator location and remove the power steering.

Thanks.

Would anyone by chance know how much I would gain by changing to a F-body alt. Also would need to know how to wire it into my harness (my 05 harness controls the voltage regulator)

I had the same problem on my C3 corvette swap. I cut 3/4" out of the truck mount between the top mounting hole and the bottom of the alt and had it weled back together. Works perfect!
