Did the 2 bolts break off in the block or in one of the heads?

And for your question, deffinately use the the LS1 heads, they will raise the compression and help the engine breath better from the porting. Just remember to get a nice sized cam/intake to compliment the heads.

Better than the iron ones! Same as the 241's. Should be fine if they are ported.

6.0 gasket, use the Multi Layered Steel LS2 ones they sell for $38 each through most of the vendors here.

Those iron heads are the same casting as the 72CC 317 aluminum heads. Your LQ4s crank is .400" longer which means yout CANNOT use any LS1 transmission. You have to use an LT1 4l60e or 700r4 or something with an SBC crank spacing.

The 99-2000 LQ4s only came with 4l80es behind them which were still SBC/BBC offset which meant that the crank needed to be longer. It's the reverse of people here running a spacer to allot an TH400 to bolt to the LS1. The spacer is built into the crank. You can machine down the crank surface, or just run an SBC transmission. I know because i have one sitting on my engine stand on my porch waiting to go in my Datsun. I am trying to figure out if i can use an LT1 T56 behind it or not. I'm pretty sure i can i just need to make sure i can use an LT1 clutch disk with an LS1 flywheel and pressure plate.
