has anyone put a 5.3 or other ls based engine in one? my dad is thinking about swapping out his straight 6 for a v8 I'm trying to talk him in to a 5.3l but the problem comes up for headers and oil pan. any one have any suggestion on either one? thanks. will an oil pan from a older 350 fit a 5.3l?

Good question. My brother has a 67 that we have a 327 in. That old oil pan will definitely not work. You may have to go with an aftermarket subframe like Chris Alstons, etc.

I'm in the process of putting a 5.3 in my 63 wagon. You can use a gto oil pan with the front sump. I haven't found any headers that work with the stock front clip. Everyone that I've seen had custom built headers.

Two companies are working on headers for a stock clip... BRP and Church Boy's Racing, they should be out hopefully by the end of this year....don't give up on the swap, it will be the best thing you have done for the car, driveability is off the chart....

I agree with TomM. If worse comes to worse put manifolds on it until you can get the headers done.

lets hope they come out with them at a decent price. thats true just to run the manifolds my dads not looking for power just a nice driver. how hard is it to keep the fuel injection? i have to talk to him more about it to see if he wants the fuel injection im not thinking so because he is an old school kind of guy with a carb.

They will probably be in the 5-700 dollar range, but that's just a guess. Your choices are limited on a stock clip with manifolds, many have tried, and no one has found a manifold to work yet, unless they flip them to run a turbo, there is just no room......the 06-09 vette manifolds look promising, but haven't heard of anyone trying them, and I'm sure they would cost as much as headers anyway...

I would have stuck to the stock clip if I could have worked it out, but just didn't feel like building a set of headers.....

I'm not even going to open up the carb/FI debate.......personally, the reason I did the swap was for the FI, driveability, mileage, and the inate ability to add some serious horsepower with just a cam swap, and not have to rejet a carb and set timing etc......

If he's old school, just say "look dad what neat injectors Hilborn came out with".....................and then run....

Default my two cents worth

If you go the route of a TCI (Total Cost Involved) or Heidts front end you can use the TCI headers and they fit both brands of front ends. I have a Height front subframe and the TCI headers fit like a glove. They come ceramic coated and run approx 670.00 . I bought mine through Tim's Hotrod on E-bay. For an oil pan use one from an f-body
