Default My oil pressure has dropped

Hi,

I am very happy for join you
1st I apologize for my English

I have a problem my oil pressure has dropped ( very low ) and i was wondering what i should do, I've been told to switch it from 0W40 to 10W30 and see if that helps any, I replaced the oil pump as the same one that it has before (malling Hv ) but the problem still remain, tomorrow I will change the pressure sensor and will see what will happen , any input anybody may have would be greatly apriciated.

Throw a mechanical guage on the engine to see what you actually have. That will rule if you have an engine issue or just a sensor issue.

If it's a sensor issue, just swap the sending unit for a new one.

Really though, it sounds as if the bearings might be washed out. You may be in for a rebuild. Doesn't really matter what engine you have. They all share the same mechanical aspects. But knowing which engie you have may help determine where the problem lies in the engine if it is mechanical.

LSX 454 only 3000 miles . Drove the car for 2 days and oil pressure was slowly decreasing. Got down to about 8 psi hot at idle on a mechanical gauge so pulled and there is no metal shavings in the oil id
but in first start when the engine is cold the pressure is around 32 psi

HiY OCT03GTO,

The engine is not making any weird noises or behavior the pressure rises with rpm (hot & cold) but when the engine is hot and the P is low I feel there is tiny vibration and something make engine not going smooth after 4000 rpm
very hard to notice but because it my daily drive car I can do.

we had a similar problem, it turned out to be from inside the engine,

engine will be out and inspected next week.

check the connection from the pick up tube to the oil pump.. if the orings are pushed out or not sealing could be sucking air , may have to oblong the pick up tube mounting holes to get the tube to seat in the oil pump better .

The O-Ring always seem to be the 1st thing to check... make sure you get the correct one (color).. also, if it is a new engine.. what about the dog bone in the oil galley ? bad or missing? just something to check..

Good luck

OK, I missed your post about the LSx 454. Sorry about that.

Have you put a mechanical guage on it? Are the readings you posted up from a mechanical guage?

There now difference reading after changing the oil from 0w40 to 20w40

with 20w40 presser is little higher when (cold & hot) and it not dropping fast but the problem stile there

what make my crazy is there is no weird noises in the engine

what i have done so far

oil pump + O ring

Oil + oil filter

Oil presser sensor

Checked the connection from the pick up tube to the oil pump

That makes sence. The cam bearings have to line up with the oil jurnals in the block to properly oil the cam. And the cam oil passages feed the LSx engine oil pressure switch.

The Cam Journals feed the Pressure Sensor in the LSX? I know in the normal LS Engines it's the Crank Journal that feeds it..

Crank feeds the cam. I will have to check the oil routing again. But I am sure that if there is an issue with the cam not getting proper oil pressure, the oil sensor will have a bad reading.
