454 LSX T56 9" in a Toyota Prius... Feasible?
I was talking about this on another forum, and I searched on here, but only found people talking about it.
Last night I saw a salvage (flood damage) prius for like $3,500.
And, not that it would be on my dance card for a bit... but Ive just been thinking about how cool it would be.
I would want it to appear completely stock from the outside.
Have the stock wheels widened a few inches... Run some R compounds.
I figure if i start out by welding in the cage, then go and start cutting out for the trans tunnel, and rear suspension, and everything, the car will still hold its shape.
Move the Firewall back a bit.
Im not sure why i find this idea so exciting, but i can just imagine driving around, (say in the T/A when it was stock) if a prius tried to pass me on the highway, id speed up just to be a jackass, but imagine if that prius had the power to pass me still. lol
And the even better thing, is that they are outfitting prius' with external sound systems that sound like a V8, so that the blind know when a car is coming. I guess there is an epidemic of blind people getting hit by hybrids.
So i could just tell people, that the noise they hear is just from my sound system. lol
I also was trying to think of like the ULTIMATE sleeper, thats still original, and would still be considered a nice car to drive around.
Like GEOs are POSs, and have been done before... same with minivans.
Not that prius' are cool, i guess its just a fine line... I mean you cant be both a sports car and a sleeper.
I mean a tuner is an obvious answer, like an RX7, or 350Z, or 240, or whatever... but to get my point across Id want to be much better.
ould you imagine getting your *** handed to you by a prius? lol NOT A CHANCE... or is there...?
Prius hybrids are 20 second cars from the factory... so consider if I can half that.
I mean, im just doing the math in my head here...
but ~2700lbs, with a well designed 4-link rear, on a set of slicks, with ~600whp, 9s look feasible

I thought that was hilarious.

BUT, none the less, itll be a great cover for me...
Conversation, between me and some poor guy in a mustang, corvette, ferrari, w/e
HIM: Dude! That thing got a V8?
ME: No... lol That my external sound system, to protect the visually impaired....
HIM: Umm. I heard about that... Thats gay. **Burns outs, and speeds off***
ME: **Blows by him like he's standing still**

I have seen a V8 put in a chevette more then once. Is it worth it? I dunno, guess if it's what you want then yeah go for it.
But, if you want irony, I'd put a V8 in a prius that was out of a scrapyard, that burnt ALOT of oil, and smoked like crazy.
That, would be irony x100 LOL.

Agreed! I wouldn't waste your high dollar motor on that prius. You can stuff a junkyard LS 300hp motor in it and it would be a lot to handle. Stick your 454 in your american muscle car

I'd make sure that junkyard motor smokes like mad though... if it's not huffing blue smoke like mad, it's no good.
A sticky lifter so it's got a nice loud tick would be nice too
I'm thinking, that an ls motor is too good for this. You need a junkyard, grease covered old small block out of a 1962 pickup or the like, that would be a better candidate. Something with really leaky valve guides ad worn out rings
Even in a substantially weakened state like that, a V8 in that tiny car will still move better then you think it will.
A simple 350 from an 86 iroc converted over to a 4 bbl setup in a chevette was way faster then you ever really want to go in that little car, and those things didn't even make any power.

I would also, like to do this, just to show off my attention to detail, and fab skills.
Sincerely, fab work like that interests me. Challenging, and ground breaking.

Many years ago I had just the motor for that. It was a 350 w/2bbl carb. Before I finally rebuilt it, it was burning a quart of oil in 50 miles.

That sounds like an awesome project. I think a RWD prius causing hell, doing burnouts and running 9's is enough irony. No need for the "sound system for the visually impaired".
