I'm putting a 2002 tahoe 5.3 in a 1983 jeep wagoneer and using a th400 trans. do I need to have my pcm flashed to a manual trans vin or can than be changed with a tuner? or does it matter? thanks

You will have to have the PCM reflashed no matter what unless you are running the BCM also or else the VATS wont allow the engine to run. If you don`t have the transmission tuned out (HPTuners, EFILive 7 or LS1Edit) it will throw a check engine light and a bunch of codes. I have heard of some people reflashing to a six-speed manual tune, and I have also heard it is possible to just remove the check engine light/codes for all the auto trans stuff and leave the auto tune in there.

If it's of any help,

I've just spent the last two evenings sorting out a Jeep Wrangler that had been fitted with an LQ9.
There was a fair amount of work to do as it had the Jeep manual box and a cable TB.
It wasn't fitted with any o2's, or a maf-sensor either (it was being used for off-roading in the desert).

Apart from turning off the "Anti-Theft" parameter to allow the engine to start and run, a manual SD OL tune file was flashed into it which worked fine once all the various Engine DTC codes were changed to either "non-emissions" or "not reported." Along with the related MIL Enablers set to "NO MIL".

im getting ready to start tuning my ls1/auto tune on my truck. it has an ls1 and a th350. from what i understand, i will have to tune out all the trans codes and i am running a special vss sensor from dakota digital. without it the pcm wont ever know that the truck is moving and wont get out of its idle tables. i got the sensor from summit racing for like $30.

so getting alot of different answers. so I can run a pcm with auto tune and just disable the dtc's for the trans? as there is no 5.3 vehicles with a manual trans, so I'd have to use a 4.8 or a 5.7 vin to get manual trans and then change tables back to 5.3.

Just disable all the Codes and un-pin all of the Auto Wiring.
