Default Fram 3506 oil filter doesnt fit

Hi everyone, I did some searching but came up with nothing on this. I have a brand new Fbody oil pan from gmpartsdirect. I bought the cheap fram PH3506 oil filter for startup and break in but it doesnt fit! I removed the oil filter fitting and sure enough, the boss is too large for the filter. This is the second filter I have tried. If I turn the boss around, the threads which thread into the oil pan thread into the filter. Did GM put the wrong boss on this pan?

The newer pans have a different filter. Just mention that you need the newer filter at the parts store, and they should be able to take care of you.

If you HAVE to use a fram filter, use the ph10060. As said, the newer pans (even if they're a fbody replacement or something) all have the screw in nut for a PF48 Delco filter as opposed to the older PF46. The fram cross reference is a ph10060.

ahh that would explain it! I dont have to use a fram, just thought it would be ok for break in? then changed in about 500 miles? This explains why two different filters didnt work. This board rocks...thanks guys

I wish GMPP would put in a card/sheet stating the recommended filter. I too ran into this with a new GMPP pan kit. The PF48 has a built in pressure relief too.

Frams are junk anyway. Use AC Delco PF48.

"But, but, but... their commercials say..."

The "old" Gen III pans use the standard 13/16" threaded filters while the "new" pans use metric 22mm fittings.

When looking for a filter tell them you need one for a 2004 2500HD truck with a 6.0 (22mm metric fitting). Then make sure to keep the part number for this, the belt and whatever else you may have changed handy on the list you keep in the glove box. ...You do keep all this on a list in the glove box don't you?

Try using a Wix 57060, it has the 22mm x 1.5 metric thread you need.

Add me to the list of victims here. Filled my new filter full of oil before testing it of course. New F body pan and had to use the filter off the pan from the L76 engine.

i ran into this problem too using the muscle car swap kit, since it says it was modeled after the lh8 (i think, w/e the hummer h3 pan is) i simply figured the h3 alpha filter would work, and it did
