Default Fuel pump choice. 5.3 na for now, then TT.

Hi guys, Im having trouble picking a fuel pump. Im going to be putting a 5.3 in a 34 ford coupe, with a fuel cell. I will eventually run twins for around 8-10psi. So i want something that either in the meanwhile will do the job and handle a higher load, or B i can double up for more fuel later.

Would two 255 high pressure inline walboro's do the trick. Buy one now to get the motor running NA for the summer. And over the winter pick up the second for boosting.

Hp goals are to possibly break the 500whp mark, but being a fiberglass car a stock motor will make it fly so im not dead set on a hp mark.

Any help would be great.

Sounds good! One 255 now, one more when boosted!

Thanks man, i just needed reassurance.

By they way i like your car list! My DD is a 1.8t jetta, was going to get a big turbo setup, but then i convinced my mom to let me turn our free driveway/backyard space into project car mayhem.

What do you guys think is a good fuel pressure regulator? Never realized i needed one, forgot i was building a fuel system from scratch.

Get a Bosch 044 pump now. And don't worry about a 2nd one later. Just turn it up as needed. Should support between 550-600.

Forget twin pumps, set it up now with a single 255 and switch it to a Bosch 044 later - OR as mentioned, do the Bosch now and you are set. They will take you comfortably past 600rwhp with one pump. Setup your system now and be done with it. No issue running the Bosch pump without the boost either. Mount it well with rubber isolation for noise and forget about it. Best regulator for this situation would be the Aeromotive EFI bypass regulator.

From what I have read it seems like another inexpensive regulator for now would be the corvette a lot of people run this with conversions.

The corvette regulator is not boost/ vacuum referenced....this would lead to trouble come turbo time and require line/ fitting/ mounting changes. Best to go with a boost/ vac referenced one now to be ahead of the 8 ball.

That is a good point, I was talking if he was going to go the route of do one now and redo down the road, however it would deff be cheaper to do it right once and be done if can meet budget, just didnt know what his goals are.

I have to do everything from scratch, so wherever i can get ahead of the game, without overdoing it in budget i will.

Why spend money on something cheaper now, only to spend more for the more expensive stuff later. by the way thanks for the input.

Now i simply need to run a fitting from the fuel cell[an?], to the pump, from the pump to the regulator, then to the fuel rails. Is this correct?

you ALWAYS want the fuel regulated AFTER the injectors. For a mild setup a single line will work. If you are starting from scratch anyway go:

-8AN from cell (-10an if cell outlet is that big) to pre filter (100 micron)
pre-filter direct to Bosch 044
Bosch 044 to final filter (10-40 micron)
-8an feed from there to one side of rails
out of rail into other rail
out of that rail into regulator
regular return to tank (6AN is okay for this)

This would be best case for lowest budget. Simple upgrade from this would be to use a y fitting before the rails and feed evenly to each one and out the other end of the rail and into the regulator.

This is all based off any of the aftermarket rail setups out there. I personally don't recommend boost with stock rails for a handful of reasons....but I know people on these boards do it...to each their own.

Thanks alot I never realized the regulator was on the return.

Are there any after-market rails to stay away from? Im going to search and research what would be best today when i have a chance. I usually use lunch to research, but im going to use our machine shop to start fabbing up some suicide door hinges.

You should look for the rails that have the largest internal diameter that will work with your injectors. That should help supply better volume for the future. You may have to fab up some mounting brackets, but it shouldn't be too big a deal if your building something from scratch, anyways. You might get in contact with

http://ad.doubleclick.net/click%3Bh%...erformance.com

Summit also has some good rails with the larger bore diameters

I got some stock rails for a good deal, so im going to use those for now. I needed something to throw on the motor once i get it this weekend, so i can make sure it runs as soon as poosible. Still won't be for atleast a couple of weeks, due to needing to fab my motor mounts and K member, also leaves a window for shipping of everything i bought.

Well i got a bad news call today, motor won't be at the shop till monday, so i can't pick it up till sat :-(. Damn junk yard was getting their lot repaved and couldn't get trucks in or out.

Whats the average distance from a flat firewall that the motor will sit? I want to start my K member this weekend regardless, and only tack it in and hope for the best!
