Nice car. So what are some more details of your build? More pics(build thread) How does it go? Rocket out of the hole or what? Looking at it makes me want to go work on mine. LOL

I just got the word from Chris at MAST MotorSports that the valve is not required for the VVT.

He stated that some filters do offer this same function and I will post whatever filters he suggests.

Anyone have any input on this trany?

Are you talking about the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan?

Yes. The Oil pressure relief valve IS NOT required for the VVT. I was glad to hear as I was going to start looking to source the plug tap.

And here's a link to the thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...l#post13616818

I'm not entirely convinced of the need or lack thereof for the relief valve. GM put it there for some reason. Perhaps the internal relief in the filter isn't big enough to adequately relieve pressure. Perhaps the relief is only needed under specific transient conditions that a hotrodder like you or me wouldn't be able to observe. I haven't pulled the pan on my LY6 yet, but if I find a relief valve in there, I will try to reuse it.

There is more discussion here on this topic: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...l#post13647029

Jim,

I see in the auto trans section that you have confirmed that your trans is indeed a 2005 4L65e. If you are using an E38/T42 combo to run your LY6/4L65e they will be looking for an input from a transmission ISS (Input Speed Sensor). ISS were only installed from 2007 and up trannies, the easy way to identify these is that they have a black plug with 15 pins for the main tranny loom as opposed to a grey plug with 13 pins for a non ISS tranny. I see in the other pics that yours has a grey plug. The earlier trannies can be retrofitted with an ISS. I have listed the part numbers previously in another thread, I don't have them handy right now but you can probably do a search through my other posts to find them.

Just thought I'd post this as I learned about this the hard way once my tranny was installed, I did come across 1 person who had a T42 calibration that would allow the use on a non ISS trans with an E38 but I decided to strengthen the trans at the same time so I chose the retrofitting the ISS option instead.

thanks for the links. Until I got "the word" from Chriss @ MAST. I was unsure too. Since I finally torqued my pan, I will run it (next spring/summer) the way it is. I will install it *IF* I run into problems.

Thanks for the info. I have no idea what ECM I have. Stock 08 Silverado LY6. I am having John @ www.speartech.com supply the TCM when he builds me a harness. I should be OK. I thought All LS1 60e (and up) had VSS.

thanks again.

What motor plates are you using? I think I read you were using Corvette accessories. Are they C5 or C6 brackets? The only reason I ask is because I have most of the parts for an f-body setup and I am looking at an LY6 into a 74 Firebird. I realize I will have to run a spacer for this accessory drive. Are you running AC? I am concerned about frame clearance as it is already tight and keeping the VVT should make it even tighter.

I am running C6 FEAD. I am not running AC anytime soon. But eventually. I believe your pitman arm will interfere with the bottom of the ALT. IIRC........ some pontiacs run a dropped center link and pitman arm. Try a SEARCH using JJfarmer. This info was in his build thread.

No. But I should be purchasing the Speartech harness w/ tranny ecm with ECM reflash in a couple weeks. Hopefully I will snag a Edelbrock LTs and maybe a Summit Racing 700R/4L60 trans crossmember. I am more in the "gathering parts" mode til spring/summer.

Any updates on yer ride?

Are you going to switch over to a 5th gen Camaro waterpump?

No real updates for me - my 2 month old keeps me too busy to get any work done on the car. Hopefully I can give it some attention this weekend.
