Default Kwik F-body LS1 brackets with Katech tensioner

Will it work with the Kwik AC setup? I've seen a picture of them on the engine, but to me it would seem like as soon as that AC compressor kicks on that belts gonna go flying. Anyone have any experience with it?

A lot of people are running the Kwik bracket setup. I am putting it on a 5.3 that's going into an 85 Monte Carlo SS. What makes you think the belt won't stay on?

Well when that compressor kicks on, I would think the stock tensioner would take the blow and give way for the belt to stay on. With the locking one it seems like it'd slip off.

I fabbed some brackets to mount my A/C compressor forward so I could run it off of the main serpentine belt, and with the factory tensioner it would squeel the belt for a few seconds. I switched to the Katech solid mount tensioner and haven't had a problem since and I've probably put 5000 or so miles on it. There are alot of factory applications that use solid mounted tensioners, so it's a proven design.

All factory applications that use a single belt for all accessorys use a spring tensioner or a solid tensioner so it shouldn't be any different. I like spring tensioners over solid when you can use them, they keep a regulated tension on the belt. It will be fine if you use the right length belt. There are marks on the spring tensioner that the arm should be in between, if you have the right belt length the marks will line up and the tension will be correct.

Found this thread with pics, pretty neat setup

A lot of us that are using a single belt for everything, have belt slippage when the compressor is on under full throttle. The factory tensioner just does not supply enough force on the belt. I have 2 cars that have the same problem and will be putting the Katech tensioner on both this winter.

Have you considered a WOT a/c cut off? It would help keep that from happening, cut parasitic load, and protect the compressor from high RPM...

If you are using the LS1 PCM it has that built in but if you are using something else like a manual switch or older style a/c controller that does not cut the a/c under WOT you could implement a cutoff switch to help.
