Default How to Build your own Ls1 Fox mustang headers

If you know how to weld or have a friend who can weld this is a cheap way out. I have found that mac 351w headers for a fox fit the best, but you can use any 351w fox long tube headers. I prefer to build my own motor mounts to get the engine as low and close to the firewall as possible for better weight transfer and better handling and its cheap. As pictured below I used a UPR k-member for a 4.6 and 79 mustang v8 motor mounts.

Looks good. They hang down quite a bit though.

Nice thing about doing this is you have some "wiggle" room radially and laterally to move things around before final weld out.

lol thats what i was thinking. but after looking closer it looks like he has room for the shaft although it will probably be a tight fit. but i have yet to have a set of longtubes where that wasnt the case.

Good looking headers. They do seem to hang a bit low. Almost like the LT's on my 5.0. Im hoping the lt's on my ls1 wont hang as low since i paid a decent amount for them, i dont want them to get dinged up like my others.

That's as close as I would want the header to the floor 1 1/4 away, maybe the pic makes the header appear lower then it is. Thanks for the positive suport.

If that's a problem you cant work around you don't need to be doing the work your self. It is very important that the steering is safe.
But to answer your question yes a stock steering shaft will fit.

Here are the dynatechs.
I always run my headers less than 3/4" off the floor Driven 1000's of miles like this no issues

My MAC headers needed a lot of rework to fit the steering shaft.

What bothered me the most about the MACs is the different height of the collector. Passenger side was almost 1 inch higher. I can't see why that is needed on a 351W swap.

What motor mounts and K-member did you use?

Maximum Motorsport 4.6L MOD K-member, homemade solid mounts, MM offset rack bushings (even with regular bushings the steering shaft would not have fit).

I know it's not a fox body, but my Maverick with R&C front-steer MII based front clip looks very similar. Here's a construction pic of my BBK 351 swap headers with LS flanges and how it wraps around the steering shaft...

Kind of hard to compare your picture when his are right under the front bumper pointed up. In his picture you can see that he uses the stock foxbody dual hump trans xmember as well. Your picture is from a distance and more level with the ground so it's not a good comparison IMO. Also, I'd like to see a comparison on how the motor sits in the engine bay between the two. $1000 + shipping for the AJE setup. I'm gonna guess that he's getting it done much cheaper than that.
