Fox Mustang Budget Swap/ Motor Mount Questions
Okay, I have done about 2hrs worth of searching and the most common way to put a ls series motor in a fox body is to use the 4.6 k-member and mounts. What kind of ground clearance does this give you if you're using a stock truck pan? I have seen the thread where tirefryin_s10 has picutres of oil pan clearance using the stock 4cyl kmember with custom made motor mounts but I haven't seen a thread on how to make mounts and what all is involved to use the 4cyl kmember. I know he used the truck top have and 4cyl bottom half. If anyone has some pictures and detailed info to share I would really apprecite it. I know there is fab work with both kmembers but I believe what I'm looking for is the most plug and play with he best clearance for the oil pan and headers. Anyway, here is a picture of the 5.3 I have going in and the car itself. I hope to make it a daily driver with A/C and all, deep dishes in the back, blah, blah, blah. I just got the car this week. I've already done the motor and started on the interior(BTW the block is painted ford blue, I thought it would be a little comical at car shows and such). When I get it finished then I'm gonna start paint and body then on to dropping the engine in and getting all the suspesion from fron the rear sorted out. When I get close to completion I will start a build thread.

Yeah I thought the ford blue was pretty cool too. I figured that the AJE setup is the easiest route to go but I'm looking to save some Benjamins. Can anyone who has done the swap both ways chime in?

Well, I already have a 4.6 Kmember and A-arms. All I need is 4.6 mounts. I seen the thread where it shows you how to mod the mount to fit the iron block. Could I just use a 1/4 or 3/8" plate of steel and bolt the mounts to it and then to the engine? Has anyone done this instead of modding the mounts?

I personally cant cut and weld but luckily i have a buddy that owns a fabrication shop. Has anyone ever modified the truck pan for ground clearance? I think I'm gonna go with the stock 4.6 stuff and modify the mounts, clearance the oil pan if need be, and make my own headers if shorty header wont fit. Anyone with experience using ls1 or truck shorty headers?

On a Fox Mustang the 4cyl and v8 k member are the same. Also, I have a cut down truck pan removed 1 1/2 inches, I ended up buying a F body pan. Let me know if you want the truck pan.

Not too bad, I just hate doing body work. I'm going to get the car to be a full nice roller before I start on the drivetrain. If I get it running I'll never finish the exterior.
I'm a little burn out on the camaro at the time. I still drive it alot I just haven't been sinking anymore money into it at the moment. When I get the mustang finished and on the road I'm thinking of tearing the motor back apart to lower the compression and going turbo. It may be a couple years away though. I figured it was time to explore a new car and engine platform.

On my rx7 I uesd a truck pan that we cut down and added a kick off to the passenger side to keep it 6 quarts so yes the pan can easily be modified. Also had to modify the pickup tube.
On my ltd(foxbody chassis), we built solid motor mounts on the stock kmember and put the motor high in the engine bay, I'm also using a stock truck oil pan with plenty of ground clearance. That is with the stock springs also and the car sits probably 1.5-2" lower than stock. Sorry I don't have any pictures for you.

Mounts
So I have found some mounts that basically mount a LS in a fox body using stock K member.
The lower is a 350 mount for a s10, the upper blockside is a three bolter Chevy mount. It looks like it will work with a number of different exhaust set ups. I am tempted to try it with some long tube 351 headers made for a fox.
The only mod is a cheater plate that needs to be made for the motor side of the mount.(Piece of Cake)
I am using a UPR K member but I am pretty sure they will work with even a stock k member.
