Anthony,
I watched your video, what a cool truck! I see where you where aiming for mid-20 MPG, were you successful?

Do you re-do the factory GM harness for these swaps?
or
Use a aftermarket harness?

Wink

Owner is currently getting 22mpg but 24 is achievable as I just put a generic tune in it and the owner wanted the truck tuned so he could drive it last summer.
I re-work the factory harness by removing un-necessary wires, adding relays, OBD2 port and chk engine LED, etc. I also re-route the wires to remove/streamline the factory worm mess (snakey) layout.

Thank you for the reply Anthony.

Question: Regarding the 5.3 w/4L60E , I just brought home a 2005 out of a Avalanche today and it is going into my Chevy II Station Wagon.... what rear gear ratio would you run to potentially obtain 26+ MPG?

Stock rear end in 6 cyl cars is less than 3.0 if I recall correctly.

My choices of rear gear ratios are : 2.76 - 2.97 - 3.23 - 3.55

My Wagon has been a Drag car for 35+ years and has a Chrysler rearend under it.

Thank you for your help!

yeah sweet swap! im helping a buddy with a 52 ford f1. just put a zigs mustang 2 front in it. and planning on a 4 link rear with coil overs.

engine is a 04 tahoe 5.3 2wd 4l60e. 87k on it. all sensors, harness, computer, fuse boxes...all accesories are with it.

question---ive read the rear ends in 51 (?)---to idk..maybe 53 are dana 44's with 3.73's in them. the truck was a flathead v8...im thinking this rear will hold some power...or does someone think different???

I know this was done a few years back but I wanted to know what motor mounts were used to sit the engine in the truck

Custom fabricated tubular mounts. Pretty basic, just a plate, ears, bushings, tube and a plate bolted on the crossmember. Go to liquid iron industries for a sample of the mounts.

Stock rear ends are pretty beefy. Just need all new lines brakes, seals and fluids.

Install radiator and engine. Move front to back to clear firewall and radiator. Exhaust to steering is tight on driver side.

I have a '51 with an L92 / 6L80 - don't come anywhere near 24mpg. I get an honest 11 to 15.. Many build pictures attached below... Might give you ideas about steering column. Had to snake around the exhaust and I built a short steering column as I did want a horizontal flat steering wheel. Fabbed custom engine and trans mounts. Had to modify the trans tunnel cover significantly to clear the trans. I put the engine as far back as possible. About 1/4" from the firewall at the driver's rear valve cover.. Weight split is 55 / 45 static F/R.

Yikes, 11-15. You should be getting at least 17-19 on a basic stock tune.

What gear ratio are you running?

Ever have someone look at the tune or datalog it ?

Cunningham Motorsports tuned it in Temecula CA. I have 3.5 .... 9" rear end with 18" 285 R 40 tire. 3300 lb wet weight. I do drive mostly around town picking up my kids at school etc. never driven it long enough on the highway to get a sense of the highway mileage. As in a whole tanks worth.
It put down 352 rw ft lbs and 340 rwhp engine is stock. I was thinking the larger displacement 6.2L caused the reduced mileage.
Others called his Dyno conservative. Quite a few SoCal users here use Cunningham.

My average is probably 14 mpg. And I do get on it regularly but very rarely see WOT.
