Default What vehicle did this oilpan come from??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-6-...-/160580216690

This is the oilpan I have, with casting number 12560392. I've been told it's a '98-'99 truck pan, but can't seem to confirm. I need to buy a dipstick and tube to match, and if anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

1999 was the first year of the LS based motors in trucks. That is a truck oil pan. you should be able to buy a dipstick and tube for any 99 to 06 truck with a 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 if I am not mistaken. If im wrong im sure someone else will say something.

You do realize the dipstick tube goes in the side of the block and is about nine feet (or so it seems) long? If I had a choice I would purchase an F-Body, GTO or C-5 Corvette dipstick if you want to clear anything but the tallest of hoods. If hood clearance isn't an issue, disregard.

Has nothing to do with the length, but everything to do with the depth of the pan. The dipsticks are measured for the pan, and are specific to each pan.

Yup, and you can get a shorter C-5 TUBE and a truck dipstick, then mark and cut the truck 'stick to show the proper level with the C-5 tube. That's how my LS-Maverick is with a C-5 tube and truck oil pan (and 'stick).

Not always true. I put an 02 C5 batwing pan/dipstick/tube on an 02 6.0 truck motor. 8 qts barely read on the dipstick. Best to fill pan to reccomened amout (6 1/2 qts for the C5) and check the dipstick.

Beuller? I just called a dealer, and they have no idea what this came from, and that number isn't coming up as anything. Nobody's seen one of these pans before?? Really need to know asap, because I have to drill the port in the block for the dipstick, but I don't want to do that until I get the new dipstick and tube, but I need to know what vehicle it came from first before I can buy one.....

Now THAT is weird. If the dipstick/tube and oilpan are all matching, and all of the dipstick locations on the blocks are all in the same location, then something else has to be wrong.

It looks a lot like my truck oil pan that came on my '02 yukon engine with the 5.3 except mine looks less "rippled". If your interested, you can purchase mine. I'll throw in the truck dipstick tube with it. I had to go with the autokraft pan on my swap.

Check that number on the oil pan sticky. It apparently isn't uncommon for GM to switch part numbers regularly so your parts guy may not be able to find that part number. The oil pan sticky will likely have both the old and new part number as it was updated pretty regularly (at least while I was at that stage of my swap).

Also, anyone need chevelle swap headers?

Already checked there, no dice. And also - mine's already been modified, no going back now.
