All aluminum 5.3L ????? Need help!
Hey everyone,
I've found an all aluminum 5.3L that i believe came in a SSR, is this correct? If not what would this engine setup come out of?
Anyway, I need to know how much different is this 5.3L engine from the 5.3L out of lets say a Silverado?
I mean the computers are the same, intakes, exhaust and all that jaz.....
The engine, trans, wiring, computer & all accesories supposively has 6000 miles out of a wreck SSR and they want $1800 for it but i believe i can i can buy it for $1500, is this is a decent deal?
Any help is appreciated!

sound like a great deal if the all of the accessories, wiring and ECM is there..
other than a Aluminum block, Internally they should be the same. Might have different casting head, cam, pan and intake. Everything should be interchangable.
Aluminum Block 5.3L came as LM4 and L33, SSR should be a LM4.
LM4
The LM4 (VIN code "P") Vortec 5300 is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and had a short production life. It should not be confused with the L33 described below.
LM4 applications:
2003–2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT
2003–2004 Isuzu Ascender
2004 GMC Envoy XL
2003–2004 Chevrolet SSR
2004 Buick Rainier

The L33 (VIN code "B") is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and was referred to as the Vortec 5300 HO in marketing materials. Power increased by 35 hp (26 kW), to 330 hp (250 kW), over the LM7, and torque was unchanged. It was only available on extended cab 4WD pickup trucks. Only 25% of trucks made in 2005 had the L33 engine.
L33 applications:

2005–2007 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD

Update: I went and looked at this engine & the guy is crazy, its a stock iron block 5.3L out of a truck not an SSR but it does have all the accessories etc.
My question is, how do i tell what the trans is? i mean is it always going to be a 4L60E and this trans has a regular tail on it w/ a splined output shaft. so is that a obvious way to tell if its from a 2 wheel drive? I'm assuming if it was from a 4x4 it would have a plate or something to be able to bolt up to the transfer case???
Something i did notice is it had the main electrical trans connection on the drivers side of the trans rather than on the passenger side like most 4L60E i've seen........ any ideas?

I am not expert on what came from what.. get as must info as you can on it.. and research it.. I usually get answers by researching on both Forum and internet searches..
would help to narrow it down if you got the year... or the VIN
Like you said.. it has a regular tail shaft. so I woud also assume it is a 2wd trans.. get any casting number or part numbers off of the case or stickers). I though many of them have it model cased on them. (could be wrong).

Are the computers the same for a 2WD vs 4WD?
