Default I bought a 6.0L/4L80E but need some help??

I went to buy a low mile 5.3L & 2WD 4L60E from a local guy & turns out its a 6.0 & 2WD 4L80E the casting number on block is 12551364 & has a big 6.0L cast into it right by the casting number - also has aluminum heads with "317" for the part number -

My problem is this didn't come with a computer or MAF & i'd like to know what this engine came out of so i know what computer & MAF to get for this? (FYI the TB is cable not D.B.W. & this has a return line on the rails as well & has EGR stuff too)

Will any of the LS computers work? I can't see how they can since my 02 vette has a ton more options on it than a truck would etc....?

I'll look at the top of the piston again tonight to determine if its flat or dished but pretty sure it was flat and that makes it a LQ9 correct?

Anyone know what this setup would of originally get for gas mileage????

Thanks!

Think you would be safe with a 2000-2002 truck harness and accessories, I have an LQ4 and 4L80E out of a 2001 2wd C2500 and it sounds like you have the same thing I do. I think the LQ9's were very rare to see in a 2wd application, so I would double check on that to make sure you do not have the much more plentiful LQ4.

I believe '03 and up were DBW.

I've worked on several newer trucks that had cable throttle when they shouldn't have. One was an '04 5.3L Suburban. I've also seen newer vans with DBC, but vans are always screwball, and 6.0/80E/DBC sounds like something that would be common in a van.

Any early LSx PCM (pre-2007) will work, just make sure you get one capable of running whichever type of throttle body you choose (cable or DBW).

You might be able to find a VIN on the engine and run a carfax on it to see what's up with it.

Sounds good, yes i'm going to keep it a cable throttle body. So you're saying the PCM's are all the same pre-07 whether its for a vette, pickup, or whatever? I'm just surprised since the amount of options/bells and whistles cars vs. trucks have.

Anyone know approx mpg these things would get from the factory????

Talking ????

Look at the vertical pad on the rear dr side of the block.. Should be a VIN # lasered on there. If the trans is the same 1 that came w/ the engine, that same # should be on the top edge of the trans bellhsg on the dr side. These #'s should tell you what you have.
There may also be info on the bottom/rear of the trans, right in ft of the mount pad...
These are on my 6.0...2005 version of the LQ4/H2 Hummer..

The 1999-2003 ish pcm`s are all the same between the cars/trucks, its just the programming that differs. Check to see if the crank position sensor just above the starter is black or gray. That will tell you if its an earlier red/blue PCM or the later model engine with the green/blue PCM. (I can`t remember which color signifies which at the moment but its only a search away).

I'm not sure what you mean as "vertical pad" ???? Either way i'll look again for a 17 digit numbers lasered on

I'll check tonight what color my crank sensor is but i know the wiring plug-ins that go into the computer are red & blue

24X is black.
58X is gray.
These colors are referring to the crank sensor color, NOT the plug color.
If the harness came with the engine, & the PCM plugs are red & blue, it's not a harness to be used w/ the 58X sensor...
The 6.0's would be 24X, if it's up to about an 07, AIRC.[Gen 3].

A red/blue would be the simplest setup to use with drive by cable. As stated above, certain green/blue pcms have the drivers for DBC, but they were mostly reserved for vans and 2004 GTOs. Again, any red/blue PCM will work you just have to get the correct tune programmed onto it.

Also, make sure whatever tune you use, it is setup for a 4L80E as well. If you need a tune/harness, we have them.

very cool, ok i checked last night and "BLACK" for the crank sensor = 24 teeth

but the only lasered numbers on the drivers, rear, pad on block said C1F199914 which isn't a VIN number & this did not match the lasered set of numbers on the trans drivers, bellhousing - They are very hard to read, not near as clear as the pics above

Very helpful info guys bout the red/blue PCM i need, any hints on the best place to get this? I checked EBAY & looks a little sketchy when dealing w/ PCMs - I noticed on "Painless" website they will basic tune it to you're needs & the cost for $200 - this way it would eliminate the EGR, VATS, etc so it will fire up first time - what you think?

Ksths2, I can't speak to actually identifying your motor because I'm still learning this stuff myself, but as to mileage, I have an LQ4/4L80E in my 2500HD 4WD - stock it got between 12 and 13 MPG, after a 3" lift and 33" tires, 8 to 9 MPG and with the plow on it gets around 7 MPG.

wow, good thing gas is only $3.37 around here......... the LQ4 i've got is going in a 54 Ford & i hope to see 20+mpg, i know the LS1's will get 24ish in a conversion approx the same application/weight so i guess we will see.

BTW, i checked all over the engine & trans again last night for any 17 digit numbers and no luck...... any help???

Here's what i've come up with the numbers off the block & trans... they are very hard to read so i'll list all the possibilities i've come up with

Block:
C1F199914
C1E199914
C1F194914
C1F197914
C1F191914
Either way the 3rd digit & the 6th digit are hard to read

Trans:
TXE542988
TKE542988
TXE442988
Either way the 2nd digit & the 4th are hard to read

I've looked all over to decode this and can't figure out anything. BTW, this is a 2WD 4L80E
