Default 87 Notch ls1/t56 Updated with 1/4 mile times!

Been creeping around on the forum for a few months now and have decided to take on a ls1/t56 notch.

I recently picked up an 87 notch awaiting a lsx for a steal! Purchased with the following in it already AJE K-member, Motorsport manual rack, Baer bump stop eliminators, Tohicko (sp?) Blues, Modular mustang coil overs, UPR C/C plates, Power stop cross drilled rotors, BBK subframe connectors, BBK lower control arms, FMS rear springs, UPR upper control arms, FMS 3.73 gears and a FMS trak-lok, Walbro 255.

Just found a ls1/t56 drop out from an 04 gto I plan on picking up soon.

The car as it sits now. Paint is rough and dumb little stuff is missing, but hoping to get it running by spring.

Also looking for 87-88 Turbo coupe pedals if anyone has them!

What did you end up paying for the LS1/T56 drop out? Sourced from a yard I guess?

I think following is better idea than scourging some turbocoupe pedals:

I have seen the thread zipster made on that. I thought about that as well, but thought I would see if I can just pick up a set of pedals before trying to modify my own.

Well the motor came in yesterday. Just brought it home last night. Plan on taking trans apart and checking the condition of the clutch. Then clean up the motor some and separate the harness to get sent out and made into a stand alone. Also order my master cylinder and aje trans xmember. Along with dynatech swap headers. Have read about fitment problems with both kooks and dynatechs so figured I would just try these.

Yeah, can't really get started on it cause the rents cars are in garage, but in the next couple months I should get it in there. Just ordering parts now.

Just an update:

Got my Wilwood master cylinder. I will be mocking it up to my stock pedals like Zipster did.

I also have my dynatech swap headers and aje trans xmember.

I removed the trans and found it already has a spec clutch in it. I believe it is a stage 2 or 2+ and a steel flywheel. Seems to still have some decent amount of life left on it. Debating on using this or swapping out for ls7 as I have heard some mixed reviews on the specs. Any thoughts? Shooting for about 400whp.

Still need to get flaming river steering shaft, f-body radiator/fans, gauge cluster(thinking about using a camaro one), psi conversion wiring harness, and fuel lines/corvette filter. Really want to put a cam in as well before motor goes in as all. Not to mention the small odds and ends that I will run into.

Also will be swapping out the gto oil pan/pick up for an f-body set up.

Welp, it's in. Put trickflow cam kit in. 238/242 .595 112lsa. F-body pan was swapped over.

I went with the psi conversion harness. Just started to get into the wiring yesterday. I have the dash out to install a new heater core and am trying to clean it up with any unnecessary wires needed from the mustang harness. Hack job radio wires all over is not fun. Not to mention can not find any decent wiring diagrams for it.

The master cylinder is mounted up, still have to make a connection to the pedal. Brother made me a nice aluminum plate. My mock up plate was kinda sketchy and the bottom hole was a little off so had to make it bigger.

I forgot that the trans sits back a lot farther, and the gto shifter sits wayyyy back, like to the ebrake, so I hacked up the center console, it will be covered anyways. But I do have a f-body shifter coming in today so that should bring it up 3-4 inches.

Dynatech headers fit pretty well. I still have to move around a couple brake lines on the drivers side because they rub.

As for the steering shaft I ended up buying a new ujoint for the bottom and extended the shaft. This way the joint that goes into the column sits between the last primary and the firewall, out of the way.

Well, I tried starting it for the first time yesterday, and she fired up!

Only stays running for a few seconds, not sure if it gets flooded from the bigger injectors or cause all the emissions bs is still in the computer, but what a relief when it started up! Actually almost positive vats just need to be disabled.

Will hopefully be getting driveshaft done sometime this week and also my clutch pedal to the master cylinder. Should be cruisin around next week! Vids to come!

The idler pulley is made by Dayco, part number 5160000, got it at advanced auto parts. The belt I used is Dayco part number 19270564. I did not mount the pcm yet because I need to get the vats disabled this week so it will stay running, and then tune in 500 miles after clutch is broken in. I honestly have no idea where I will end up mounting it, not too many convenient places. The passenger floor will do for now lol.

Coming along nicely. Who makes that rear cross member set up? When you build a drive shaft do you use the Fox body unit with a T56 (27T?) slip yoke welded on?

Trans xmember is made by aje, same with the kmember. As for the driveshaft, its actually at the shop right now. Picked up a stock fox one off my buddy, needs to be shorted about an inch and a half and yes my buddy gave me a 27 spline slip yoke, just using a combination ujoint for the two different sizes.
