Default 2nd gen viper ls motor swap

Hello everyone I have a pretty funky idea just seeing what everyone thinks about it. I was thinking of down the road buying a viper and doing an ls swap. Would that be plausable? I would prolly have to get the tranny too but idk. It would be dropping around 200 lbs and have a ton of room for a turbo. What do yall think? Shoot me back some ideas!! Thank you very very much

Yeah I agree, only if you get a really good deal on one with a bad engine, then would be way cheaper. And the viper trans would work with bell housing and input shaft change, I'm sure.

No way would you lose 200 lbs. 50 lbs max if that.

The aluminum Viper V10 is based on the Chrysler LA V8 small block, the bore spacing, deck height are all very close to the GM LS engine, just with 2 extra cylinders.

I really don't see the point of this unless you can pick up a Viper without an engine for cheap.

Yup, it would be awesome. Yup, it's going to **** people off. Yup, do it if you can. Hell, you can probably build a nice 427 monster with money left over when you sell the V-10.

Oh, and it will sound better.

A lot.

(Vipers sound trashy...just saying)

Awesome I read on wikipedia that the 2nd gen v10 weighed 650 lbs and also read that a ls1 weighs 431 lbs with flywheel and accessories. Is this all correct?

Damn......now you got me looking at Vipers. LOL

I would never swap out the motor unless you got one dirt cheap and blown.
In THAT case, I'd say yeah go for it.

Do it just to **** everyone off, I agree.

Boring...Nothing short of a an old Allison V-16 tractor pulling motor or some kind of jet turbine will turn any heads in a Viper.I have to agree with the others, anything that gets rid if that weird V-10 vacuum cleaner sound is well worth it,I hate it with my Dodge 4x4,I don't know how anyone can tolerate that sound in a performance car...

You like a stock C5's performance over the Viper ?? I'm guessing early 90's viper ?

The only big thing about the Viper is you hardly ever see them so they are more iconic in nature and turn more heads.
Vette's are a dime a dozen. So it just depends on what you're after.

Hell yeah do it but keep all the original parts so 20-30 years down the line you can have a numbers-matching car and sell it for ten times what it goes for now

Why not do it? As someone mentioned, get a deal on one w/ a bad engine & go from there. I personally wouldn't tear down a good running Viper to do the build, but, who knows what will be available when you buy. Shoud be a pretty easy swap, as swaps go & the trans will be easy.
