What gas tank for a 1970 Chevelle?

You got a few options if you want to go Intank pump setup.. or as 99VetteFRC did, sump the tank and go External Pump.
I am using a 94-96 Impala tank, you can also use a Buick GN tank from the mid 80's on, both of those support Fuel Injection and has internal Baffles or cups.
If you have the $$$, Rick's SS Tank with the Gen 5th F-Body setup or a Valley SS tanks.
You can also use the tanksinc setup which will retro fit your stock tank with a drop in in-tank pump and setup.

I did the spectre tank in my 71, had problems, then went with the Buick GN tank now. It's only draw back is it hangs a little lower than the valence in back, and the fill neck is offset to the pass side so the filling of the tank is slow or it sloshes back.
Going with the tankinc. set up in my 66 this go around. Hope it works better.

Impala Tank The Impala tank has the filler neck in the center, so all you have to do is cut the Neck down and bolt it to the frame.
But yeah. it does hang down some, but you don't notice it too much and I have not hit anything with it so far.
A plus is the Sender is also 0-90 ohm so your fuel guague will work without any other changes.

Didn't you have to trim the inside of your framerails for that? Someone else i've talked to used that tank and said it was abouthalf inch too wide. Plus you have to make a raised section in the trunk floor for the hoses too clear,right?

I trimed maybe 1/4" off of the side rails for maybe 9" on each side. I made a access panel to give the sender and lines room. It came in handy once. I had a I bad ground, I thought the pump went bad. I open the access panel and found it. back on the road within 45min and didn't even gave to drop the tank or anything..

I found that the tank fit snugly with no trimming required. I did push it all the way to the top and cut an access/clearance panel in the trunk floor. Mine does not hang down quite so far as bczee's. I also used the stock straps and made a union to extend them to fit the original mounts.

Do you have any pics to show what you did with your tank? I saw BC's on his Car Domain site. I might be going this route.

If you have the money to spend, go with the Ricks Tank. Thats what I have in my 70 Monte Carlo and my 72 El Camino. I have an LS3 in the MC and a SBC Gen 1 350 in the EC. With the MC, I went with the Ricks Tank right off the bat. With the EC, I tried to save a few bucks by getting a new aftermarket tank modified since I converted the SBC 350 to EFI. That was a waste of money. I ended up getting a Ricks tank for it in the end.

I have a couple of pictures. Can't find the ones from under the car. I will see If I can get you one today. I have the top all pulled apart right now so getting a good detail may be a challenge.

95 Impala tank in my 72 442. Had to trim 1/4" off the last 6-8" of the frame. Also cut the trunk. You could use some spacers at the top front of the tank and get the clearance you need without cutting the trunk. Get a filler neck with the vent tube connected.

I sumped my own tank and put and in tank pump in it. It is probably more work than you are looking for but an ok option if you dont want to cut the floor.
