Default LQ4 / 4L60E Swap Into 1971 Chevelle - Build Blog

Hey all,

I've started a blog documenting the history of my Chevelle and the build process for swapping an LQ4/4L60E into the beast. Check it out at:

http://25yearchevelleproject.wordpress.com/

Please let me know what you think of the blog, any information you'd like me to add, etc.

Thanks!

Hey all,

Been updating the build blog for my Chevelle project. We have pictures of the completed frame, some early shots of the LQ4 engine and I added some this morning from the bodyshop.

If you're interested in following the build blog, click on the "follow" button in the lower right hand corner of the screen... you'll get a notice when I post new stuff!

Thanks again to everyone who has helped out, answered questions or generally worked to keep me on a good path! LS1tech gets a mention on my Contributors & Supporters tab!

Good luck John, nice build. I too have a 71 with an lq4/4l80e combo, and I love it. I did a cam change, and 3200 yank convertor, and left the trk intake on it and made 391hp on the dyno.....last summer.... doing another lq4/ 4l60e in my 66 post chevelle now....

Thanks Brandon... in fact I just posted some new pictures of the body this evening... in just a few hours today (between blog posts) my car went from looking abandoned to having her entire rear sectioned out (both quarter panels and the roof skin)... all between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm. Tony works fast with a SawzAll!

Thanks Rick... I was planning on using a 5.3 in this car but the shop I contracted to build the engine had an LQ4 with less than 60k miles for half the price of the 5.3. How in the world could I turn down more cubic inches for LESS money! Glad to hear you're already on your second conversion... and to have both be Chevelles? Even better!

Welcome to the forum, there a few great build threads here with 71's, just, look for them in the A body listing of build threads.

Let us know if you have any question.

Well, no one can accuse me of being a post-***** on this thread, since It's been about 7 months since the last update!

I've been keeping a running update at my dedicated build-blog website...

https://25yearchevelleproject.wordpress.com/

Take a look. I have listed a lot of reference items on a separate page... includes links to parts I'm using for the engine swap, magazine articles and forum threads about Chevelle / LS swaps, etc.

The bodywork is just about done and soon she'll be headed down to Top Gear Motorsports in Mesa, AZ for the engine/trans swap. Stay tuned!

Looking great John, I'm actually working on rebuilding my first car as well. It's gone from street car to drag car and now I'm making it a street car again. My Chevelle is my mistress as well.

Where are you in Arizona? I'm out in Mesa and just completed my LS1 T56 swap. You are going to love the LS motor in your car!
