Lq4 in my bird
I may be swapping a 6.0 in my bird soon..
What do i need for the swap? Its just a drop in isnt it? Nothing else?
Im probably gonna be buying 60lbs + injectors since ill be getting a f1 procharger and ill need a walbro or racetronix 255 pump.
Heres the specs:
02-03 Silverado 2500 Engine 80k miles
317 aluminum heads milled .30 has SCR of ~10.1(cleaned, pressure checked)
Comp Cam 220/220 114lsa, and LS6 springs
Head studs
Comp Hi tech pushrods
New oem headgaskets
LS2 timing chain
L92 oil pump(50-60 psi @ warm idle)
How will that cam be for boost?
What gas Mileage can be expected with a 6 speed?
Horsepower? Torque?

First off LS6 springs are NOT a good idea. You'll wind up with valve float. Cam should work ok. If tuned properly you could get 30 mpg.
What year bird is this because it may not be just dropping in easy.

well that was just a engine a guy offered me on trade. id rather just pull a stock one and get it build
I have a 1999 ws6.
and im looking for 10s or less with full weight and still decent gas mileage.
i would consider sticking with a ls1 but theres no replacement for displacement.
i would like to build a 402, maybe a stroker? but i didnt know if that would work well
what are your thoughts?

do a search? thats the reason im on here? searching and asking questions and such

Jadedbird, I think they're saying you might want to poke through the stickies at the top. BTW, there's not a huge diff is size between 5.7 and 6.0, but there is a difference in weight between LS1 and LQ4 - about 90 pounds. This will effect the handling on your car. Plus, the LS1 is more powerful out of the box than the LQ4 - @ 40 HP, from what I understand.
I recently had the very same trade presented to me (I have a 01 vette LS1), and ultimately passed on it. My use (road race/limited street) of the car puts more value on reduced nose weight and drive train complexity than big HP numbers. Power adders = more complex. Iron = more weight.
Now, if you're drag racing or really want a nutso HP numbers, your priorities will be different. An iron block may make sense, as will turbos, but... dunno. Like the others said, you'd be well served reading through some of the other threads. There are folks who've "been there done that" and have lengthy build threads to show for it.

Yes it's a drop-in. Only thing needed to be done is drill & tap the ear on the drivers side for M10x1.5..it's for the alternator.
As mentioned there are guys that have done it to Fbodies. I used a LT1 car so weight upfront stayed the same. LS1 you will gain 85lbs upfront, build the engine up a hair and you won't notice it.

Any reason you are wanting to go with a F1?
I agree there is no replacement for displacement but using forced induction its not nearly as important.
If you wanted to do it cheaper you could pick up a 5.3 and boost it.
It would be a good idea to step up to a dual pump system and bigger injectors.
There are several sponsors that sell kits, NastyV8, Lonnies and several others.
There are also a few threads on how to do it yourself for cheaper. I can't remember at what power level the stock fuel system needs upgraded. A lot of guys run a new feed line and use the old stock line for the return line.
As far as cam choice goes for boost Bob@Brute Speed. I know he is really good at ProChargers. Actually that is who I would talk to. I've talked to Bob several times and he is always helpful. He will be able to tell you exactly what you need to achieve your goals.

yeah ive been waiting for those guys to chime in. I WAS DEBATING ON what headunit i want to go with
ive talked to bob lately and i pretty much have my mind set. 80lbs aint much at all. ive talked to several people and the weight up front goes unnoticed for the most part. i will just have to find a lq4 and build it up. also as for the lq4 and th els1 being a 40hp difference...
