This is a great thread for me as I'm considering the same project- putting the 480bhp ls3 or an ls7 in my 03 C4s. Have you considered: an upgraded clutch, a lightweight flywheel, or upgraded engine mounts? Also, does yours have the stock touring suspension (m030 I think) or had the previous owner upgraded it? Sorry if you've answered any of these before!

Default Transmission paint

What kind of paint did you use for the transmission?
I'm pulling my tranny this week and was going to start cleaning and preping for paint.

I've been told the drive train/Clutch should handle up to 500hp. I'm gonna try the stock first mostly cause it's new. My suspension is stock C4S, I'll keep it that way till I see the ride height and handling. I've been short on time lately and haven't done much, have to install a new floor in my 16yr olds Bass Boat, should take about 30hrs of my time

I was told a few months ago that they didn't get the Cruise to work. But I seen a post, I believe on their web page that they just completed a car and did get EVERYTHING to work. I'll be asking them soon when I get to that point in the build.

I cleaned it very good with degreaser and lacquer thinner then painted with high heat engine paint. It's worked in the past on other aluminum parts. Will do LS3 engine also.

It's a Porsche clutch, custom flywheel, and the mounts are semi-solid.

Thanks for the tip on the transmission paint.
I have my insulation out in the motor compartment and was looking for a good spray on material with sound attinuating properties and good thermal insulation valve to it (came up with this stuff called lizard skin). Have you seen this stuff in action? i was going to use it in the motor section and maybe where the spare tire go's.
Any thoughs?

note: picture shows an unfriendly taking up residence in the insulation before i took it out!

Haven't seen Lizard skin in person yet. My compartment is bare still. Wasn't getting all that insulation glue off FUN? I've been on hold for a week or two, putting a new floor in my son's bass boat. I've got the forward engine compartment panel made up, just need to finish with some seals and nut plates. Will get back to it and post some pictures soon I hope.

Got the engine rear access panel finished and the remote power steering pump installed, just need to finish wiring it. Still have not purchased the LS3 engine or the Renegade install kit. Had to spend too much of our savings on the house over the past few months. Need to get the Boat sold for some more funds according to the Boss.

Purchased some solid Rear suspension frame to body Bushings off E-Bay $145. They're supposed to stiffen up the rear frame and lower it 1/2. They definitely make the frames quit drooping when the car is on jacks. Just hope it doesn't make the ride TOO harsh.

Also got the boys Bass boat floor and transom rebuild done. Fiberglass work is so much fun, NOT. Put in new Oak plywood floor and new oak 2" thick transom. Also used that new Restore deck paint on the floor and transom. looks good, non-slip, we'll see how it holds up.

Not much going on right now. I'm going thru the Obama furloughs at my job while the A10's are leaving Barksdale AFB and I'm waiting on the Rift process to find out if I'll still have a job transferring over to the B52 side of the base or I'll have to move to a different job somewhere else. Democrats always cause us military problems. But that's another story.

as far as the cruise working, the ls3 is dbw and supports the cruise in the gm architecture. just need to make the gm components talk to the Porsche components.
good luck on your build

I just read an interesting article in Automobile magazine about the IMS bearing failure. It seems a bunch of owners got together and sued Porsche. Porsche then agreed to fix the engines within 10 years of 2003. Some owners obviously got really screwed especially the ones that cut their losses early. An American V8 is a nice FU to Porsche though.

I'm in the military. I'm telling him, it's unnecessary to post your rank and service on here.

But do tell, you're an expert, right? Please proceed.

Yep, that out of court settlement was final 7 weeks after I bought the car and 2 weeks after I sold the old motor. This car turned 10 in Aug.

That sucks even more. You could have sold the replacement motor to fund the whole LS3 swap. I'm sure you have thought of that though. Even if I ever get the means to buy new Porsche, I don't think I will because of the IMS thing.

Just curious, how many miles on the bad motor you got rid of? The guy in the article had 26k miles on his and babied like most of them. His bearing went out 96 days after his 10 year mark. Porsche told him to pound sand.

Anyways, I promise I won't bring it up again. I hope you get your job situation figured out so you can get wrenchin on this thing. I saw a few vids of the LS conversions and they look like a ton of fun.
