08 5.3 into 75 camaro

Not much progress lately, still looking for an alternator. I did pick up a MAP sensor from the parts store for the F body intake and installed it. Cleaned and greased the door latches. Hope to get the core support back on the car and start working on the radiator mounting and hoses. Core support needs to be patched in 1 corner because of rust but not too bad.

more progress today. Drilled the holes in the subframe to mount the Hooker crossmember. Got the rust cut out of the trunk and started to mock up the new sheet metal.
Picked up a supposed "f body" alternator off craigslist but after googling the part number on it turns out its from a 2000 GMC sonoma 4.3 V6.

Have you read this thread (and the one it links to):
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...r-upgrade.html
It talks about going with the KG3 alternator out of a truck. 145 amp alternator.
I did this on my 2002 Camaro, and will be doing this on my 72 build.
Good luck! Coming along nicely.

Looks like (from the pic you posted) that you have a 100 amp alternator. I think the f-body's is a 105, so pretty close to the same amperage... dunno about how they mount up.
The essence of the article is that you can get a used 145 amp KG3 alternator for about $50 shipped off ebay. Gives you 50% more juice. Mounts about the same except it only uses 2 bolts instead of 3. But the trucks run fine with only 2 mounting bolts. Mine has run fine for 2 years with only 2 bolts, so no issues really.

Got the core support patched up and painted. Not the best looking but it gets covered up mostly anyways. Might go back later and put in a good used one since nobody makes a repop. Pulled the dash panels out and started to clean them up. The main dash panel is pretty nasty, gummed up and curling near the pass side end (common). Got some metal braces behind the dash getting bead blasted and powder coated.

More work on the interior this weekend. Fixed the big curl in the dash and painted it w/vinyl paint. Also got the dash brackets bead blasted and powder coated. All the dash plastic also got freshened up with new paint. Should have it all installed this week and get the windshield put back in.
