Default Best way to install Autometer Coolant sensor and keep factory sensor?

I would like to install my Autometer coolant sensor and gauge, however I would like to keep the factory coolant temp sensor connected so I am able to data log ECT.

Anybody know of a adapter so I can install the Autometer coolant sensor, while retaining the factory LS sensor as well?

You can buy a coolant sensor from dakota digital that screws right into the heads, there are also a few NPT to metric threads reducers out there that will work also.

autometer sells the adapter, and you will need their short sensor to put it on the rear passenger head

forgot the part numbers you will need, call autometer. but its the 11mm adapter and their short sending unit so it will fit. you need to take out the allen plug on the passenger rear head, same position that the oem sender is in, just reversed (heads are reversible)

Yep that's the right adapter pn. I will see if I have the short sending unit or not.

Thanks!

You have a few options

Get a radiator hose adapter. These eBay for pocket change come in various sizes and are threaded for 1/8" npt. I have one for my steam vent lines.

Or make a "tee" up for the outbound heater hose (5/8") from 1/2" npt parts and bush down accordingly. This is how I have my mechanical gauge hooked up.

FYI

I had a mechanical gauge that would not fit that adapter, my mechanical gauge has 5/8"-18UNF male

I could have drilled and tapped the LS port from M12 to M16 and then used ATM-2275, but I just bought a Electrical Autometer Water gauge instead so I wouldn't have to drill and tap.

The risk of getting shavings in the steam tubes scared me.

Just a side note, you need to keep the factory sensor in place. Beyond being able to datalog in HP Tuners or Efi Live, without the sensor the PCM will think the coolant temp is -38 degrees which fouls up the fuel and timing calculations.

Get a 98 temp sensor and hook it up to the PCM and gauge.
